can someone explain me this i mean i have read a lot of articles about this but some of them say yes that marijuana cause you short-term memory if you are a Long-term user of marijuana and others say that is not true that the effects pass if you stop smoking marijuana or that is misunderstand , short-term memory effects only appear when you are in the influnce of marijuana and dissapear in some hours. I mean why they dont tell you the true are they telling you this to make you take a side .
please tell me the true if you are 100 % sure of what are you telling , don't take sides.
By the way i have smoke like a year and my live is the same but more relax and kind of more happy (you know what i mean )
(sorry for my english , is not my first language) :o

Problem is, there isn't a whole lot of scientific research on folks who are long term users. Almost all the info out there is biased in some way.
Personally, my short-term memory has always stinked. At least now I have an excuse for it...

It affects me when I smoke..yep...but not after I have stopped for about a week....but that is just my experience....honestly though xanax is a total "blackout" drug.

Yeah I have a photographic memory. Since I started smoking my memory has gone to shit, although I still have photographic memory it's just selective now. I smoke atleast once a day though. If you smoked a few times a week it would be fine. Also I have been dry since Thursday and my memory has dratically improved.

The site, below, has the studies. I think it's pretty recent. This is the summary:
{Studies have consistently demonstrated significant impairment of short-term memory for number sequences or verbal recall, although not for major events or factual elements of narratives. The effects of cannabis are usually subtle, and although statistically significant, the magnitude of any impairment tends to be dose-related and subject to tolerance of the drug"s effects, on the personal characteristics of the user, and on the circumstances in which the drug is taken.
Cannabis may increase the likelihood of minor errors of time perception, verbal recall and similar factors, but not affect recall of important actions observed or experiences undertaken. In a regular user of cannabis, acute intoxication by the drug would have little effect on performance.
Cannabinoids appear to disrupt short-term memory by interfering with the filtering of information, such that a greater volume of information reaches consciousness, overwhelming the ability to store, or prioritise such information for storage in memory. }

Seriously, I think you only lose your short term memory when you're high, that has been my experience. BUT XANAX... I have seriously lost years of my life being addicted to it. It really is bad stuff, but it makes you feel so good... I don't do it anymore. because I'm not allowed. However if I did come across it I'd do it w/o thinking....

My short term memory is fried! Can't remember what I did two days ago. Long terms fine, I can remember shit from when I was a kid. I'd deffinately argue that cannabis plays with your short term memory. But hey, who needs to know that shit?

I find it does affect my ST memory not only while smoking but also to some extent for a day or so after. Since I smoke every day now, (when I have stash :( ) my ST memory is somewhat impaired on a permanent basis. But there are other compensations such as extreme focus, enhanced visual and spatial reasoning and ... 'sfun :) Whenever I stop smoking (rarely now) my memory bounces right back!

I've smoked for more than 20 years so I guess I qualified as a long term user. My personal feeling is that short term memory is only effected when we are high, burned, or weed is somehow still in our system. It's like weed turns on one part of our brain and shuts down the other.
When I was in high school and through my early 20's I smoked a lot. I was pretty much high from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. If I wasn't high I was burned out. I also did a lot of acid, tons of shrooms, some coke, etc. I couldn't remember shit and really thought I had fried my brain a bit. I think a lot of smokers are like this. Always in a constant state of being under the influence. Even if we don't feel high it's still there, not allowing the memory to turn back on.
In my mid 20's I decided I needed to get my shit together. I went back to school and stopped smoking so much. Since then I have earned my BS in International Business and a BA in East Asian Studies with a GPA of 3.83. I learned to speak and read (some writing too) Chinese. I now have a professional job making pretty good money. I say this not because I think I'm hot shit or anything( I don't). I say this this because its pretty obvious that if marijuana actually did cause permanent short term memory loss I don't think I could ever have accomplished what I have.
Now, I only get high in the evenings because I really couldn't do my job if I was high. I have no problem remembering anything during the day. When I'm high though, I have to ask my wife about what happened 5 minutes before on the show were watching. So, bottom line, the effects are temporary.
