this thread was on the marihemp general board, but my user names been suspended since i havent posted there for so long, so i thought id ask the same question here
do you think that if you learn an instrument, its better to take the time to teach yourself, or spend the money and pay for a tutor!?!

Ghost nice signatuire bud, i beleive those r my werdz :) so correct they r..
anywayz, i play the drumz. i started out juss fuckin around by myself, but i think the drumz r an instrument that u definatly need ta learn the basicz frum a teacher. i took lessonz fer a year, but i quit becuz all we did wuz go thru one ov those bookletz over an over, juss playin 1/4 notez, 1/8 notez, 16th n so on....an now i can make n play my own music, i like it. so wut instrument were u thinkin on learnin? cuz id personally learn guitar by myself....but not the drumz. it dependz on the instrument.

yea thats what i thought.. my bros been playing the guitar since he was 15, now hes 26 and hes shit hot, but he wants to start teaching people himself, but even though he can play like up to grade 9 or 10, he doesnt know some stuff thats like grade 2 or 3, so hes gotta go back and have lessons to learn the basics lol
im not thinkin of learning an instrument now, ive been playin the drums for just over a year and a half.. been teaching myself, never had a lesson.. but im startin to think maybe i should have a few lessons to learn the basics that i cant teach myself.. especially since im about to spend £1400 on a new kit lol oh yeah, i wanan leanr bass guitar too, i just dont know anyone that plays and isnt too busy to teach, but i dotn wana take lessons coz i know id hate them..

oh and heres a photo of a kit similiar to the one im buying next month.. im moving into a new house in 2 months, gonna be living with my bro, my sis and her kids lol, its gonna be nuts.. instead of settin up my 2 kits in the (gonna be) music room downstairs, we're just gonna set this kit up in my room upstairs.. it kicks so much ass, my bro works at the shop that sells it so ive played it a coupla times, had a jam with him too on the guitar.. im in love with it lol its got like over 1000 preset sounds, man its so cool

yah man, i used ta take lessonz wit a guy who owned a shop downstairez, i luv playin those kinda kitz...there wut pro drummerz practice wit when they on the road, n there great fer in a family house cuz they dunt make no noise. lookz like a sweet set up. an az fer the lessonz, well the main thing u learn frum them iz like i said, the proper way ta play all the notez, an a few trickz that im glad i learned. i think if i were u, id either find a friend who knoz all bout it an cood teach yah, er maybe jus download lessonz frum the net. takin lessonz frum a teacher iz borin an expensive, but u do need 2 kno the basicz.

I play the guitar and i take lessons. I think if you take lessons youll get where you wanna go faster. I hate those booklet things also. My instructer lets me work on whatever i want. We dont have a book. I leanr alot by myself but its good to go in once a week and be able to have somebody who knows what their doing better then you help you out. You know what i mean?

yah itz definatly beneficial ta b takin lessonz. i went once a week, sumtimez once ery 2 weekz, n i usually tried ta bring in sum ov my tunez, n get him ta teach me how 2 play the song...but most ov the time he wanted ta me practice wit the book an thatz y i quit. but YES iz rite, it iz a rlly good thing ta have a teacher who can show u how 2 play a lil better, an u will learn much quicker.

It really depends on how you learn. If you can teach yourself something without having it shown to you first, then you're capable to teach yourself an instrument. If not, get lessons.

i agree here, if ur startin completely from scratch its good to have someone teachin u, it might not have to be proper instructions, just from someone whos bin playin a fair while, but it just depends on the person i reckon. some peopl can do it on their own, some do better with instruction. best off just findin which u find easier. i personally think learnin the guitars easyer on ur own. but good luck neway mate :D

ive alwayse thought learning the basics of something is better tought by someone experienced, but if u jus take the time to teach urself, ull have a more unique style. but everyone learns better different ways. some need it showed to em, some are better if they read on it an do it on their own, some are better if its explained to them. it jus depends on the way ur better at learning. but being able to ask others fer help is alwayse a very good quality.
