Ok I was wondering who has had braces here? I have a small area that needs closing and I have made my decision. I'm gonna go ahead and have 'em done. So I came here to talk to those that had 'em. Do they hurt? If so how bad? Lol.
Anyways I was wondering...from the looks of my gap how long do you guys think I'll have the braces I'll be getting on for? I provided a picture of my teeth that needs fixing. I put it in a link instead of attaching it so it can be your decision to click it or not to make an estimate.

hehe crazy picture, the camera is actually in your mouth it looks. But they dont hurt, not any worse than burning your finger on a roach or something. Braces are a gradual thing remember, i had em in the 6th grade for like a year and was supposed to wear a retainer and only did for like 2 months. Now i think my teeth are back to where they were before, but i personally didnt see what was wrong with them in the first place
But yeah they arnt bad, the only thing that bothered me was how i had to go to the orthodontist all the time and have them tightened or something, and putting them on is a bother, just pressure and hands in your mouth

same. i got my teeth fixed they were crooked when I was younger but it is a long ass process and you have metal in your mouth 24/7 personally now having gone through that shit I'd rather have just kept my teeth how they were

Get braces, it's worth it but after the time of braces you need to wear a retainer. Honestly though, I'm glad I had them. Had them for 2.5 years total, a year and a half in 5th grade and then 7th-8th. I don't wear my retainer though, fuck that, it fucked with my lipring when I had it so I never wore it + now it doesn't fit lol. But yeah, they really aren't THAT bad once you get used to them.

That gap isn't big, nothing I'd worry about.

I don't believe in braces at all. Altering the bone structure of your face to make yourself prettier is right up there with smashing and binding a woman's feet to make them smaller.
A lot of the times these "doctors" just want your cash. A friend of mine went into one of those aesthetic smile centers for a cleaning and came out with a $33,000 quote to "fix" his mouth. Insanity.
Before you get braces, talk to another doctor or nurse about your mouth. Ask them if they see any future problems as a result of how your teeth are naturally. If they say no, leave the Chinese torture device alone.

seriously
i regret getting them every minute of my life
they are a bitch, definitely not worth having my teeth a lil straighter
braces: 2 years; retainer: 6 months-5 years. orthodontitis: a mddle-class disease whereby sheeplike parents hurl wads of cash at the person willing to spend his days with his hands in their teenagers' mouths....;)
I have braces
I got it when i was 14....train tracks that is....since then I have had a retainer and another set of train tracks...
To be honest I'm pretty happy that I got braces, the longer you leave problems with teeth the worse they tend to get, and the harder they become to treat.
Im now 20 and I still have train tracks on the back of my teeth...thats like 6 years with some sort of metal in my mouth, and it just feels pretty normal to me....
They ache, they dont really hurt....its a weird feeling when you FIRST get them on....the dentist pulling is pretty uncomfortable.....but once they are on you get used to them pretty quickly....i stopped noticing them after about 2 weeks.......then you have to go and get them tightened.....which starts the whole aching part again....(thats train tracks!)
but now i dont have them tightened anymore....they are just there to keep my teeth in place....and so they will definatly wont move when it falls off....he said it will probly fall off when im 25..........
LOL
Pointless post about my braces....
:)
You wont need them on for anywhere near that long....id say 1 year max

So about this retainer thing...My mom had braces and she said she only had to wear them right before she went to bed..is this true? If so how come so many of you refused to wear them? Lol.

Maybe she means headgear? I don't think you can take braces off. Braces suck dude don't get them. I hate my braces. They are annoying. If I were you I'd live with the hole in my teeth.

I didnt say she took the braces off I said when they were removed she was told to wear a retainer and she said she only wore those after she got ready to go to bed and I was wondering is that true?
i had to wear it all the time for about a month then i was able to only wear it while I slept.

Ok cool...I think I'm gonna go ahead with it but I cant say my joyfulness about it hasnt decreased every since I read a few replies here lol. It's just funny how everyone in my family had a gap..my dad, my mom (hers was fixed though) and me. But for some reason my sister is the only one with perfect teeth. I mean my teeth are perfect all except the two front teeth of mines lol.

Man, no offense, but you'll need maybe a year or two of braces. That is fuck all! I wore them for 10 fucking years! :p My one front tooth was turning sideways, and I had a huge overbite. Painful? Yes, very much so, but this was well over 10yrs ago now that I had them, so a lot has changed since then.
I had to go in once every 2 weeks, have them tightened, and my mouth would hurt for the next 2 weeks. By the time I went in again, my mouth had just gotton better and I had to endure it again. Keep in mind my teeth were fucked, and the dentist I did see, was very old fashioned (cheap), and did things in in old fashioned way.
We didn't have much dental coverage then either, so it costs my folks about $500 every month just to keep my mouth in order. I still wear a cemented in bottom brace, behind my bottom teeth, to this day. It's never coming out unless I want my mouth to go bad again, but I hardly notice it.
In your case though, no, it probably won't hurt anymore then going to a normal dental checkup. Yours just need to be pulled together by the looks of it, so it won't be bad.
Good luck though!

i had to wear palate expanders on the top and bottom for several years, then spacers for a while, then top and bottom braces for another 4 or 5 years then retainers for another year. i started when i was 7 or 8 though, because my teeth were royally fucked up from a young age. if it werent for all my dental work i would look seriously malformed.
if i were you i'd look into those invisiline things. your teeth are just a bit off, so i'd avoid getting little chunks of metal cemented to my teeth if i had the option of removable braces. if you get regular braces, take damn good care of them, because if you dont you'll have permanant marks on (and possibly holes in) your teeth from where the braces were cemented on. getting the braces put on and taken off is a giant hassle, very uncomfortable, but hey, it only happens twice, and for me it was a small price to pay for having presentable teeth. getting them tightened is uncomfortable, but not unbearable... akin to a mild headache that lasts a day or so. it only happens once a month or so.
