The taste and smell wont come through completely untill the buds have been cured properly. Figure 10 - 14 days of drying and another month or more of curing in a jar. The longer they cure the better they smell and taste. It breaks down the chlorophyl in the leaves which is was gives it that green taste.
Good luck

i have never dried for more than 5 days before jarring. sativa, you are saying to hang the plants for 10-14 days!? they wil be dried to a crisp! usually i jarr after 3 days in the winter and 4-5 in the summer because of the climate where i live. you start to notice a difference in taste after 3 weeks of curing. just make sure you take the lids off the jars for 20min a day.

Drying too fast will leave a green taste. IMO 5 days is way too quick to properly dry your buds. Everyone has an opinion and if it works for you then that's what matters. Are you drying the whole plant or do you cut each branch off? What humidity is your drying room? Do you have a fan blowing on them?
I have never dried a plant in under 10 days at 55% humidity. I have a small oscillating fan blowing at the bottom of my drying room and the plants are hung at the ceiling (so no air is blowing directly on them).
"For best results, drying should be slow and incorporate circulating, temperate (50 - 60 F), dry air. When dried slowly, over 2 - 3 weeks, moisture evaporates evenly into the air, yeilding uniformly dry buds with minimal THC decomposition. Slowly dried buds taste sweet and smoke smooth. Buds dried quickly burn hot and taste harsh." Jorge Cervantes - Indoor Marijuana Horticulture
"If you have dried your plants for three weeks hanging upside down you can subtract that time from the canning time. Although you can have good bud to smoke two weeks after your harvest it is better to wait for four weeks or more." Greg Green - The Cannabis Grow Bible
"It usually takes at least 10 to 14 days to dry before you start the final manicuring. Drying faster makes the taste disappear and makes the buds crumbly. Again, patience pays off. Letting the plants dry slowly makes them taste much better and helps them to keep much longer. They are dry enough when the stem snaps. Buds dried in this manner are usually teardrop-shaped." i see what you are saying. it's just with the climate in most peoples houses if a plant is hung for 2 weeks it will be dried to a crisp unless you live in a very wet climate. the longest a plant has ever taken to dry in my house was 7 days and it was raining every day that week so the humidity was very high. i'm sure if my plants took 2 weeks to dry the smoke would be smoother but without a humdifier that will never happen. i wasn't disagreeing with you sativa, i just wanted to make sure the plant would'nt be overdried. you can always add a moist sponge to the jar but the tyaste is never the same after it gets overdried and remoistened. sorry for any misunderstandings.

No prob man. I was reading my reply after I posted it and it did sound like I was being defensive. I just wanted to make the point that the longer you dry them the more flavor you'll get from them. You are right that if you live in a very dry area you will need to use a humdifier or some other means to get the humidity up. Bud rot can also be a problem when slow drying your buds.
Anyway lots of luck to ya Joker and may everyone have a happy and stoned Saturday.
