So between MH, HPS, or CFL's would it be safe to say that MH for vegging and HPS for flowering? and that CFLs are kind of not as good as the other two? Or would it be good to have MH and HPS the entire life of the plant?

I don't think so... not in my opinion anyways...

CFLs have been proven "to pull an amount"... but not pull "a good amount"... again, in my opinion.

I think the world of CFL is just starting to take off - they are good if you only have a small space to grow.

If you have a decent amount of room MH for vegging and HPS for flowering will give you a considerably larger yeild / better quality bud than CFL's will, but CFL's can be used to grow from start to finish.

The main rule with CFL's (so ive heard) is to double the wattage when you start to flower - otherwise the yeild will be very small.

Also CFL's are great for starting a seedling as a high powered MH / HPS would be too strong at first for the plant.

True.... I've got a closet that's 20" deep, by 40" long... with a 48" height... and I've got a 400W MH and an 600W HPS in there.... :D

As to CFLs' main rule, that sounds good. Never heard it, but it does sound like a good ballpark figure.

CFL, as you say, is great for seedlings and clones... true again. :)
