actually it sucks... the person you're downloading from can get your ip with just a click... so.... you dl anything illegal (and i'm talking about even copyright songs/movies) you coudl easily be walking into a trap to be busted.. next the downloads are generally slow as hell unless you pay for the program (it's free to use, but you have limited capabilities if you don't pay for it... the dl's are fast, if you have cable, but if you have any other program and cable the downloads are seriously slow and shitty) next... the program eats up fuckin memroy like a 400lb. fat man that spent 2 weeks in jail eats up twinkies... whenever i'm downloading off it... i can't really do shit at all, i can't open up webpages, i can't even fuckin click on start menu wtihout it taking a good 3 mins to finally open... (it takes up over 3-4x the memory explorer does, and explorer is responsible for ALOT your computer does.... everything from webpages to your damn toolbar at the bottom... )

That doesn't really matter. If it's anyone that's going to enforce the law, they'll get you're IP regardless of what you're using. You have to download a torrent downloader, stdzrus, or else the downloads won't start. I recommend utorrent. You can go to their website to download version 1.4.

as for it doesn't matter, i guess you're right.. to a certain extent.. it's just.. well we all know there's no real point in getting some type of p2p program unless it's to pirate illegal stuff.. with that being said i feel alot better conducting my illegal buisness where every single person can find out practicly who you are with just a click...
in a way... it's the same as how i wouldn't go stand infront on the street conducting drug deals, while making no effort to hide anything at all.. such as me meeting the guy at the entrace to the parking lot of wal-mart along side of the one the busiest roads in my town, take the gallon sized ziplock bag and hand over a wad of cash.. it's just not the smartest thing to do and is only asking to be caught.

The files that said would take 3 days and were crawling at a snails pace on BitTorrent (and yes I downloaded the torrent extracter) I easily got on LIMEWIRE in less than three hours.

Do you have the correct ports open in your firewall? If not, the downloads from bitTorrent will be slow... but once you open the ports, it will start climbing up in speed...

Also, if you see slow download speeds, give it 10 or 15 minutes.. sometimes, the system is working around the leechers... that sucks.

I used LimeWire for some time, but didn't like all the legal decisions the company was taking to save its ass and fuck its users... so, I ditched it. The only thing I do now with LimeWire is distribute the Pro version on the bitTorrent network. ;)

Assuming your IP is private when you connect to any p2p network is foolish. They all work the same way, by providing direct connections between clients. So anyone you download from is going to have your IP address.

BitTorrent, unlike other P2P services has no central server making it far safer. There is nothing to login to and nothing to signup for, therefore no central "log" that can be subpoenaed. The individual BitTorrent clients create a network between themselves and each downloader takes responsibility for the file's delivery. It's pretty genius actually.

If your downloads are never starting it means there aren't any seeders (uploaders) for that file or they can't reach your computer because you're behind a router or some kind of internet connection sharing. In the latter case you just have to forward the appropriate ports to the computer you're running BT on.

People logging into old-school Napster-like services are one subpoena away from a MPAA lawsuit :) It's happened so many times already.

BitTorrent is great for downloading whole Cds or other files thqat are bundled in my opinion. Try the BitComet client and let your stuff download over night...sometimes I DL several cds and a movie or two overnight.

also my favorite tracker site is www.demonoid.com ...

If you woulda let the torrent go, it would have sped up. The longer a torrent goes, the faster it gets. (of course you are limited by the peer/leech ratio for top speed)

You can also customize your torrent client to maximize its efficiency.

On the average torrents are a far more effficient method to download large files. It is not practical to use for music singles.

BitTorrent works by connecting a downloader to it's fastest uploaders. This is simply how the program works. Limiting uploads or disabling uploads altogether only serves to inhibit your access to said file. FACT.

W007 were you really a beta tester? thats pretty cool, I was a beta tester for the dungeons and dragons MMORPG, and im gonna be a beta tester for firefox's p2p APP, but all ya gotta do is sign up for that one for the open beta, so i guess that doesnt count at all.... doh, check out www.allpeers.com sounds like its gonna be cool beans!

We sought out Bram for tech support and were left as testers. It was a fine experience though not one the p2p community gained from as Bram has since taken money from the MPAA. Luckily the initial licenses have provided for rampant community development.

Its really not so bad that he took money from the MPAA is it? i mean what harm has it done, he just got alot of money for redirecting searches on the bit torrent site or something didnt he? If not they still gave him money and didnt really damage the torrent community? i dunno please explain
