Hey all
I'm just your normal pot-smoking teenager. I just had a few questions. Lately, the past two months I've been smoking daily. It was usually just once a day although some days I would smoke all day or something haha It all depends. When does tolerance start to kick in? I mean obviously it has, but within the last week and especially the last weekend, it has gotten real weak. I've been smoking the same weed pretty much, but it just seems like I get a nice buzz then it all goes away before I can enjoy  But whatever. Should I take a week off? Any tips? I love smoking, this can't be! Calm me!

Take a 2 week break and you will get high as fuck again. A month and it would be even better but all I think you need is a 2 week one.

There's no set time frame for tolerance setting in, it's different for everybody. for the first year I got stoned out of my mind into utter incorherence. then the next half year I learned to handle it and and got normally high. now about 2 months after that year and a half, I can barely get high anymore regardless of how much I smoke. but my little brother, who started smoking 2 months ago, already has a tolerance as high as mine.
if you take a week off, there'll be a mild difference in your tolerance. basically the first high will be great again, the second a little less, the third you're right back where you started.
if you take a month off, you've probably got a week to a week and a half of better highs, though your tolerance will still be up, just not as much.
if you really want to get back to day 1, I'm not sure, but what I usually hear is 6 months off with most people.
smoke less amounts. there is reverse tolerance, where it goes down. i know people who have smoked for years and years and years and then longer, who smoke 1 bowl and still get high. for me, i still get high off a bowl, but my highs dont last as long.

yeah, lately my highs have been pretty mild at best... I often find myself sober after like 30 minutes from smoking.

laying off for a week or two, or even a year doesn't help. your brain learns to deal with the buzz. i remember when i first started i would be able to trip by closing my eyes when stoned, now all i can hope for is a nice mellow feeling that lasts for maybe an hour if i have the amsterdam shit. one of these days i am gonna try hash to see if it is different.

Is that it's scientifically proven that it does or doesn't cause tolerance?
I heard, can't remember where, that it actually takes less the more you smoke to make your brain high, but that tolerance is just caused by being accustomed to being stoned. Is this true?

I just did a bigger reply that wasn't there after I hit the back-button because the server was busy.
But, this one answers your question.
Marijuana produces no withdrawal symptoms no matter how heavy it is used. It is habit forming (psychologically addictive), but not physically addictive. The majority of people who quit marijuana don't even have to think twice about it. Comparing marijuana to addictive drugs is really quite silly.
For a drug to be physically addictive, it must be reinforcing, produce withdrawal symptoms, and produce tolerance. Marijuana is reinforcing, because it feels good, but it does not do the other two things. Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol are all physically addictive.

Oh, and mice and rats won't self-administer THC, also.
