Hey guy's I have posted a couple random post about my project. Basically ive spent close to nothing on this and the setup actually seems to be looking good. my grow area is in a "basement" and about 3x3x8 in dimensions. Below is a personal text document ive started.. This is a 1st time project soo anything , anything at all that u think will help me benifit feel free to post opinions :D

================================================== ====
Duel 24inch Flouro cool-white tubes with reflector.
Soil, Shultz Professional plus.
3x3x8 grow area.
Fan for circulation.
space heater for temputure purposes.
Tap Water.
================================================== ====
------------------------------------------------------
[Sunday, Febuary 12th]

- 3 successfull germinated seeds have been planted.
- type of seed unknown. (from some really good)
- Lights will run 24 hours
------------------------------------------------------
[Sunday, Febuary 13th]

- The plant's havent broke soil yet (11:10 am.)
- Soil appears to have enough water.
- Light's will remain on.
------------------------------------------------------

IF im not mistaken my flouro lights will work from start to finish??
People have told me to buy a 400w HPS for my "flowering" stages, If I use flouro from start to finish will this kill my yield ALOT?

UMrocksmysocks
02-13-2006, 06:38 PM
well at least ya got the ball rolling:)

id give it a day or so before those break thru, REMEMBER NOT TO OVERWATER DURING SEEDLING STAGE.. i over watered with my first set and lost one cuz the roots couldnt get thru the soaked soil.. :(

floros will work for the whole grow, but i strongly recommend getting at least a 250w HPS for flowering,, or if you have the money, go with a 400w for you 3 (right?) plants. it will double your yeild AT LEAST if things go well:)

TheBrains
02-13-2006, 07:34 PM
cool ill keep the flouro then and in a few week or so ill grab a 250w hps (ace hardware or walmart have them?) or I should I get the HPS asap?

also would I want to run both lights at the same time?

thanks the brains :rasta:

you need to go to a grow shop to find an hps bulb and ballast, dont forget you need one of those too! :p

these two websites sell hps

www.bghydro.com
www.1000bulbs.com

you could also look on ebay for a used system for cheap, if money is an issue

as for ordering asap... if youve got the cash, id get a 400w MH system right away for vegging... the hps can wait until you flower

Make sure not to just go out and buy a HPS bulb, you need the ballest too...HPS bulbs dont run in normal fixtures...I started watering my plant like a little a day just keeping the soil damp...now im in flowering and i water once every 3-4 days, giveing the plants nutes every other water...Looking good for my 1st plant!!!!! Well GL bro

Dont forget to buy a timer at homedepot or lowes, you will need it for flowering to shut the lights on and off...They are cheap, u could get one for like 2-3$. Try to get a PH tester if you have the funds also...again B, GL

soon I will invest :) but I got a quick question my seedlings are in 32oz styrofoam cups "from gas station lol" how big should I let them get before I transplant, and how much dirt does x1 plant usually need to let the roots grow successfully??

I figured ide just slice the styrofoam down the side for a transplant, should I water well before the transfer??

thanks for the input peoples :)

If you transplant right after a watering its very messy, and if you do it when the soils dry it falls apart. I suggest transplanting halfway between waterings, and the root mass will stay in tact nicely, making it much easier on you and the plant.

You got the right idea about cutting down the side of the cup. Cut off the bottom off too and the cup will slip right out. I believe I read somewhere that syrofoam makes a poor growing container... I forget why... no big deal, but just for next time.

TheBrains
02-14-2006, 07:50 PM
so exactly how long should I let them grow in the 32oz cup tho? couple weeks?

btw, its day 3 of planting

plant1: no stretching at all very sturdy, approx 5-6cm tall
plant2: pedals arent opened all the way about thier. (1 day behind on planting)
plant3: pedals arent opened all the way about thier.

"is plant 1 just xtra healthy?" they all have same amount of light/water

UMrocksmysocks
02-14-2006, 09:42 PM
if i were you i'd carefully cut little holes at the bottom of those cups for drainage if you havent already. sometimes the roots will poke thru those holes, if that happens then you'll know when to transplant.. but its really not a huge issue. id transplant in a week regardless. as for transplanting... DONT WATER IT, let the soil dry out, then tip in upsidedown with your fingers supporting. in my experience that technique works, the soil might break apart a little bit but its fine, just get it in the new pot asap

BkSkillz
02-14-2006, 09:59 PM
i dissagree totally with rock my socks dont transplantwhen dirt is dry always water then transplant in order to keep the rootball in tack and also if there o nly 3 days since planting dont plan on transplanting anytime soon at least for another 3 weeks the rule of thumb is 1 gallon of soil for ever foot of growth above soil do the math and you'll know when to transplant another good way of knowing is how he said let the roots come out of the drainiage wholses to knoiw shes ready for more root room why not to transplant untill the 3rd/4th week simple the stress of the transplant if done incorrectly will stunt growth which sucks ass...one last thing superthrive is great to reduce stress from transplanting or anything else ..p.s. theres a great transplanting guide int he faq section here go get em...

cool thanx for the input, also with my lighting "two 48" floro with hood" is it wise to run them 24/7 ? what lighting times do u recomend? So far since planting lights have been on for 3 days,, *Buying a timer 2night*

Josh55
02-14-2006, 10:15 PM
I recommend keeping them on 24/7 through veg stage, and when your ready to flower go straight to 12/12....Im on my 1st grow but it worked perfect for me..

I paid like 5 bucks for it...

quick question: ive been keeping the lights about 1-2inch away from em and its not burning them... although they ARE VERY short and bushy .. I no short bushy plant will result in tight compact buds (correct me if wrong) and is thier a such thing as "too short" should I raise lights and allow them to stretch to about 10 inches or so???? before I switch to a 12/12.. also lights have been on for 13 dayz now.
..

5 inches width
2inches tall

one of them has its smelly :) today is DAY 13

I was thinkin about puttin them on a 20/4 for the 3rd and 4th week then go to 12/12... does this make since to sorta let them get used to dark instead going str8 to 12/12???

02-25-2006, 08:34 PM
What up Brains i saw the need for some questions answered on your thread, so i will do my best to help you out. Leave the lights about 2" away from your plants, you want them to be short and bushy ALL THE WAY through their 18/6 "veg" phase... Do NOT slowly switch their light cycle... Go DIRECTLY from 18/6 to 12/12. Hope i could be of some help Brains...

Looking fantastic. As far as the light cycle goes, I've read both ways are fine.

I did 24/0 for the first few weeks and then did 23/1, tonight I switch the 22/2. I'm basically going to keep bringing the light cycle shorter and shorter until I feel they need to flower or until I reach 12/12 :D

Hello Brains :) Yes the bottom leaves do die off, it's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about ;)

However if the leaves above start to die then there may be a problem, but the bottom ones always do and that's ok ;)

However the 1st picture has no FLAWS and that is the ONLY stinky one.. "I bet this is the female"

I was hoping to transplant on week 4 the day I go into flowering therefore being able to start my bone meal with fnew soil

HERE IS 2 hours into ((day 22 )) the one on the right is stinky!!!! and the one behind is also ... the one on left has no smell.. I didnt get a pic of the one in big pot ill get it tomorrow **WAS TO LAZY ;p**

hey sheist, im using a VERY shitty lighting system x2 24inch flouro with a hood...... soo my flowering will greatly slow down.... but w/e I got them for free ;p ive spent about 20 bucks all together so fail or suceed I cant gripe..... :)

my fav one ss 10inches tall 11 1/2 inches in widthand ive read that once u start the 12/12 cylce they will double in size.. im looking to keep them about 2 feet tall... btw this is my 1st semi-serious grow soo all this is new to me aswell....

I am absolutley amazed to see something start from nothing and become SOMETHING!! :)

I dont no how long ima flower or when ima harvest.. im just goin with the flow ;p ive heard atleast 6-8 weeks but do to my shitty lighting i may go longer.... Ima make it thier decision , not mine :)

I have x2 24in's too.. So I'm to expect the same, but I have 2 25w CFL bulbs with my setup, I'm lookin to up the juice tho.. you should top the plant, it'll cause the plant to grow outward more then upward!

All the seeds where from the same dro bag... And it seems two of my babys have a more "sativa" look to them and the biggest one more indicia....

Maybe they mixed up some seeds..

Maybe use 10 liter pots, cause you'll give more room to the plant for root development witch results in better and more consistent intake of water and nutrients.

The strain has not been backcrossed enough to make it stable. Therefore you can end up with a variety of different looking plants. Some look like the father and others like the mother, some can be in between. I guess it could be quite common when growing from bagseed.
