Where Do You Stand On Homosexuality?

I come from a rather predudice town and a majority of stoners and people here highly dislike homosexuals and as result there aren't a hell of of a lot of em around here. Another reason i ask is because i myself am attracted to men, and woman. I often have trouble comprehending why some people can possibly hate something that not only doesn't concern them, but that they no nothing about.

And something that really gets me is the fact that it makes very little difference. So a guy has sex with other guys, or girls having sex with girls. The relationship between a gay/les couple is essentially the same as a straight couples relationship.

Kind of reminds of beer. So many choices, and makes so little difference. If theres whisky in front of me, i say bring it on. If its vodka, i throw up.

What do you think about such matters?

1. racism is generally looked down upon by almost everyone... which is being prejiduce, yet... gay-hating is very widely tollerated, when in essence it's the same thing... judging someone by a trait they cannot control...

I think one of the factors in homophobia is just confusion of signals. Some people dont know what to make of a homosexual. Is he a man? Is he a woman? Is he going to come on to me? If I like him does that mean I am queer? yata yata yata - a lot of social interaction is just sending small signals that reassure or offer something and thats all very tightly woven with our sexuality. I wouldn't jump to apply the "overpopultated rats" theory to human beings. Look at India, and China, etc. They have a large population, and their rates of homosexuality are probably about the same as less crowded places. I'm not justifying the population explosion - I just wonder if it has anything to do with people's sexual orientation.

Gay people have traditionally gone to San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, etc. - and many of the gay residents of these cities are not from there originally.

a good idea of why, is because gay people are outnumbered by straight (that is a fact) so they move to heavily populated cities becasue they know they stand a better chance finding another gay person that they are compatible with there, then if they were in a lowly-moderately populated city...

even if straight-gay were equal, anyone would stand a better chance finding "the one" in a heavily populated area, than a smaller city...

The old "bathhouses" are all gone: Bette Midler got a huge start entertaining the patrons of these places in New York, c. early 1970â??s. Barry Manilow was her bandleader at the Continental Baths in the old Ansonia Hotel. Melba Moore, Peter Allen, Cab Calloway, The Manhattan Transfer, John Davidson, Wayland Flowers and many other made the place very successful. There were "straight" places, such as Plato's Retreat, also. All of them, as far as I know, were closed down by the Health Department. I remember "massage parlors" in Times Square, and they are gone also. You can get anything you want here, for a price, but itâ??s no longer out in the open.

P.S. I didn't visit Plato's, or engage in ANY of these activities, lol. I never believed that I'd get AIDS from a woman, but even before that I never wanted to risk getting the clap, syphilis, or herpes. Personally I think the most important thing is for the parents to give their children a proper context to understand. Having said that, who cares whether the family meets the nuclear model or not? I'd rather see children raised by two fathers in a loving home than not be adopted.

There's a diference between judging and taking a stand for what you believe is right. Christians have a saying that goes something like love the sinner hate the sin. With an issue that fires up an emotional response because its so controversial it does make it harder but its something we have to do.

Biblically, homosexuality is no diferent than any other sin. Sin is sin, no matter what it is. We can, and should, love and respect the person, without telling them we think what they are doing is right. If the person claims to be a Christian then we have the resposnibility to help that person overcome that sin, no matter what it is, and encourage them to come to repentence and restoration with God. We can not do that if we sin by being hateful towards the person themselves. However, if the person knows it is sin and refuses to repent then we have no choice but to ask them to leave the church. This process takes a lot of time and must be handled properly and biblically. This applies to all sin, not just homosexuality.

I do know that HE did not choose this. It is just the way it is. He tried damn hard to fit in, at the loss of tons of self esteem, and many unhappy years that didn't have to be unhappy. He even battled drug addictions because he was do depressed. I do believe that some people want attention, and can "choose" to be gay to get it. But I am not talking about them, cause they are doing ANYTHING to get attention, not just "being" gay.

I think that it is not up to anyone person to judge. If you don't like it, don't think about it. But no person is worthy of judging another persons worthyness. If that makes sense.

Some would actually disown family over this crap. I try to never ever ingage in negativity to the degree of hate. I live in the San Francisco area so I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of homosexuals. I have to say that 100% of them were really cool people. I don't think I can say that about 50% of the straight people I've met. Bottom line is that a person should be judged by their character, not their sexual preference.

The assault on homosexuality is more than a weird idea though. I understand that it has some kind of biblical reinforcement but it isn't at all clear what that is. At the same time most Americans do practice this new-age interpretation of Christianity, observing some laws while ignoring others. I'm not sure how else to classify a modern adaptation of ancient religious belief. I don't believe that modern Christianity can consider itself authentic just because it has become socially acceptable to do so. When that occurs there is a weird breakdown of faith. It's one of the reasons I can't identify myself as Christian.

This isn't about scripture, it's about logic and how you reach conclusions when it comes to faith. My original comment was how people often reach back into the Old Testament (Leviticus) while ignoring all the other perceived "nonsense" it contains. First I agree with you. Second, by your description, animals are actually smarter than us because THEY have learned our language in order to communicate with us. Dogs sit, cat's use a specific place to go to the bathroom. This is not instinct, this is learned :)

Back when the Bible was put together, the Roman Catholic Church was the publisher. It decided what went into this book. There's a diference between judging and taking a stand for what you believe is right. Christians have a saying that goes something like love the sinner hate the sin. With an issue that fires up an emotional response because its so controversial it does make it harder but its something we have to do.

Biblically, homosexuality is no diferent than any other sin. Sin is sin, no matter what it is. We can, and should, love and respect the person, without telling them we think what they are doing is right. If the person claims to be a Christian then we have the resposnibility to help that person overcome that sin, no matter what it is, and encourage them to come to repentence and restoration with God. We can not do that if we sin by being hateful towards the person themselves. However, if the person knows it is sin and refuses to repent then we have no choice but to ask them to leave the church. This process takes a lot of time and must be handled properly and biblically. This applies to all sin, not just homosexuality.....

For those who follow the christian faith marriage is a sacred agreement between a man and a woman and a male-male female-female marriage would not be considered true. Now I understand and respect that as we live in a time where we are entitled to religious freedom. Where I become confused is George Bush etc's attempts to pass a constituational ammendment banning gay marriage. Do we or do we not have seperation of church and state in this day and age ? I am just confused how the government has any basis for banning wedlock between a homosexual couple and denying them the benefits of marriage ? Homosexuality is not a crime. Why is entering into a binding agreement illegal ? I just struggle to accept the idea our president is preserving the concept of marrage in the eyes of "the people." Religiously I do not see marriage between a gay couple being accepted and or practiced any time soon, but strictly on a equal benefits level why does the woman down the road or neighbor whatever who busts her ass at work not allowed to then provide support to an ill partner with her health insurance ? I should point out that I have met some really cool Christians too. In high school two of my best friends were Born Again Christians. I still think they were hoping to save me or something but the bottom line was that, deep down, they were really good people. Anyhow, I won't judge anybody until I get to know them.
