an itch i just can't scratch

i had an itch today and refrained from scratching it, but after a while the sensation became unbearable i had to indulge in a scratch. this got me to thinking what is an itch and how does it all work. so i decided to look some stuff up to only find that scientist don't really know much about it either.

I hate itching. I've had mosquito bites that I wanted to cut off of me with a knife just to stop itching. I'd rather be cut open than itch.

I've never taken morphine before, but I did get a friend of mine high for the first time back in the highschool days. We were at wrestling camp at appalachian state and he was itching like crazy. He kept asking if he was supposed to be itching like that. I thought he was gonna peel his skin off. It was pretty damn funny.
