Can't you go to Home Depot to get some pumps there?

Which one to pick... Well, depends on how/what you want to do with your 4 plants.

Air Stone: It's a "stone" with many, many, many pores (Garden Knowm was counting them one day, and he hasn't finished yet). Anyways, these pores throw millions of tiny air bubbles into your nutrient mix.

You know fish aquariums? The air bubbles rising? That's made by an air stone. Or "air rope"... but that's basically an uber-airstone.

You need an air pump for your air stone... get the best air stones and air pump your budget can allow.

If you go DWC with your four plants, in 5 gallon buckets, you can skip on the water pump... unless you want a recirculating system... Anyways, yes, you really really do need a GOOD dual-outlet air pump, and GOOD air stones.

(turtle replied at same time,..read on for a good pump source)

We need to know what kind of hydro setup you are using. Is it flood/drain, a bubbler, a drip system? If you are looking at water pumps I'm guessing flood/drain (aka Ebb & flow).

The airstone makes bubbles in the water and is connected to an aquarium type air pump. The air pump isn't absolutely necessary unless the roots will be hanging in the water (ala bubbler method), so they can receive o2. A 600 GPH pump should suffice for four plants in ebb & flow which is what I have on 2 plants and its overkill. Might try checking eBay for a seller named Aquacave, they have good prices & fast delivery.

It's cheaper to build your own. For four plants you can do a bubbler $10 Walmart duo line airpump or ebb and flow pond pump submersible $30 Home depot. This is all plants in one large tub. How large are you planning on growing these plants? Larger than a foot tall you many need to separate into bigger containers.

For four plants dirt is really easier for beginners. You'll be spending enough money on lights and fans and nutrients and coolers and dehumidifiers. Get my point?
