I just bought a few upgrades for my PC. Unfortunately, I can't get it to startup. It runs the Windows XP screen with the green bar, then directly afterwards for a quarter second displays the Blue screen of death with something about my hard drive not working correctly and the code 07000000x0, I think. I read about the BSoD on wikipedia and said it occurs when the drivers perform an illegal action. I'm assuming I need to install the drivers for the mobo or the cpu, but I can't do that without starting up XP, and I can't start XP at all.

I upgraded a GL VE 2002052 Mobo to a DFI NF4-DAGF, a Celeron to an Athlon 64 3200+, and 640MB pc2700 RAM to 512MB PC3200.

I've tried "everything". I say everything because every day I think of something that might be the problem but changes nothing when I do something about it.

never seen the blue screen of death on xp yet, try hooking the harddrive up to a friends PC then installing the drivers on it

That's included in "everything." I try to install, but it says that I need to install the mobo first.

i dunno dude, sounds like your gonna have to crack and go to a computer repair shop, expensive as hell i know but they can usually fix em, im not a hardware guy. Id suggest going on a forum for tech though before that hehe

When I upgraded my pc I changed the motherboard and the cpu. I got the same thing with windows. I had to reformat, and reinstall windows. that worked. If your not computer savy then dont even try.

If you have a recovery partitioned hard drive continuosly hit F8 F10 or F12 and boot in safe mode and see what you can do.

A PC illiterate wouldn't know to do what I've done so far. I'm dling an xp dvd with azureus because my pc vendor shipped some dumbassed recovery discs that don't work when your only original component is... shit. I was gonna say HDD, but it seems I've upgraded every single thing. Remember when OS installation discs were shipped with PCs? Those were the good ol' days.

When I boot to Safe Mode it doesn't even display anything. It just restarts.

Oi I had this same problem with my computer.

Unfortunately I took it to a guy who wiped it clean and put XP back on it for me.

I hope you backed up what you need... You are going to have to reinstall windows... You might want to put everything back and start it to save what you need then upgrade hardware again then do a fresh install of windows...

I don't believe that's the problem. I put together my old pc (what I'm on right now) and it runs perfectly, but when I install the new CPU, mobo and RAM it crashes. I just need to find out how to install the new drivers.

You went from a intel to AMD,your registry is screwed and you will not be able to boot... Have you reset the BIOS??? Try it but I still think your screwed

I've run a HDD originally on an AMD in a PC with an Intel, so I assume it could work going from an Intel to an AMD. I don't understand what you're saying about the BIOS. I'm upgrading the Mobo. Each mobo has it's own BIOS. Nothing is screwed up on my registry, other than it being part of a PC that is unable to run with a new mobo, because I'm using my PC right now with my old mobo.

read the manual for the new board and find out how to "reset the CMOS"... Then boot while hitting your "delete" key... Then set "Default Setting"... Then hit your "F-10" key and reboot...

buy one of those cheap like de-magnitizers, plug it in wipe it all around the outside of your computer, NOT YOUR MONITOR, and then plug ur computer in and put everything back on it.

I actually checked online because my manual felt a bit light, and the general manual for the series of mobos is twice as big as the one mine came with, so I kicked the wall. It is not a problem with the BIOS. I've set it to fail-safe defaults, optimized defaults, my defaults, and gone through everything on tomshardware that said could be interrupting the starup. It's not the BIOS. The BIOS detects my HDD and is actually the best BIOS I've ever used (the reason why I bought DFI).

If you insist on doing something,go to the micrsoft site and get xp recovery disks and do a "fixboot"... You may be able to boot into dos... If you can't find the boot disks I think I have a set ...

XP is much more keyed to hardware changes than it's predecessors. It's a "security" feature that MS came up with to minimize piracy. In this case you have changed he mother, memory, bus, etc, a lot of changes all at once. I agree that you should find some old DOS disks, or a '98 boot disk, and boot to a floppy (remember those?) just to make sure all of your hardware is correctly connected and working together. If you have a copy of Ghost (my personal preference) or Nero you can image the drive with the old (intel) setup prior to putting in the new hardware and should be able to recover all of your valuable data. Odds are that you will have to re-install XP after wiping the HDD but you can first try doing a repair if you can boot to an XP CD. This might get the machine to a point where it will boot to the HDD and allow you to install the the new drivers. But if it fails, you can still restore the drive from your image. With an image you can experiment a bit and not have to worry about losing your data. This is all assuming you have an actual XP install disk and not some funky recovery disk.

My boot discs no longer work because I have upgraded every part of my pc, which is why I'm now dling xp with azureus. It will be dled and nurnt in 20 min so hopefully, I will be playing Bf1942 with an overclocked CPU in a half hour.
edit: I'm leaving my error in place because nurnt is funny.
