Opeth is a progressive metal band. They sound badass when you are blazed. Ghost Reveries is a badass CD. Anyone else here know whats up?

Opeth is great. Blackwater Park is my favorite... if you haven't heard that yet, I suggest you give it a whirl. It's a classic Opeth album.

I agree. Opeth is a very, very good band. Their talent amazes me. I'd prolly have to say that my favorite album while blazed is Damnation because it's so chilled out.

Opeth are great. I've seen them twice live, blazed out of my head both times. Still life and Deliverance are my favourite

Opeth is definitely my fave band right now. Not only are they tight musically, and all great musicians, but the music itself is far more advanced than most metal when you begin to dissect it.
I also agree the Blackwater Park is their best album. Ghost Reveries has great synth work-- which is a refreshing addition to the band-- but the incredible juxtaposition between the heavy, dark metal and the brilliant classical guitar work on Blackwater Park is just brilliant. I especially like "The Drapery Falls".
There's actually a section in "The Drapery Falls" where the band is playing in 6/8, but the drummer's playing underneath it in 3/4-- trippy as hell.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to throw in my copy of Deliverance.

If you like opeth you would probably like The Mars Volta, in my opinion the best band for any drug expirience. Download "Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus" and listen to it while trippin or high, i gurantee they will become your favorite band. They are also pretty awesome live. But to get back on topic, opeth is an amazing band.

I've been listening to Ghost Reveries a lot lately, and it's a very good CD. It's got a great mix of their really hard, unrelenting metal style (Ghost of Perdition, The Grand Conjuration), some of their more prog stuff (Baying of the Hounds), a few riffs that border on funk metal (intro to Beneath the Mire), and of course, their amazingly spooky ballad work (Isolation Years, Reverie/Harlequin Forest).
These guys are unstoppable!

Damnation just seems more relaxed than Opeth's other albums. In Damnation, he actually sings instead of using the "metal voice", and the guitar riffs are mainly done with acoustic guitars, and the songs are a bit slower. Not to say that it doesn't kick ass, mind you... because it does.
I'm listening to Reverie/Harlequin Forest right now off their last album... fucking beautiful song.

Opeth is good, but I never really got into them. I prefer melodic or black/death metal. Stuff like Bloodbath, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Thurisaz, etc...
But for more mellow music (stoned music), I like Poisonblack and Tool. :D

Opeth is just a more pretentious Blind Guardian; they're on the same level as King Diamond or Mercyful Fate. I used to listen to them, but got over it real quick.
Not to rag on you guys, Opeth just got kinda boring.

Whoa, dude-- careful there. Blind Guardian is good, but they're nothing like Opeth. They sort of Power metal meets Broadway, whereas Opeth has a lot more in the way of melodic and harmonic complexity.
Opeth is almost like Jazz on steroids; how you get that they're at all like Blind Guardian is confusing. Care to explain?

Well based on your username, I'm gonna guess you like nu-metal (slipknot)?
I personally hate nu-metal. Slipknot is probably one of my least favorite bands too. So yea, I doubt you'd like any of my suggestions for good bands.
But try http://pandora.com
Just put in a band you like, and it should give some results you may like.
Unfortionately, there aren't too many of the more "underground" bands I like on there, so I never gained too much from it.

I just hold them on the same level. I listened to both bands profusely early on in high school, so I don't really distinguish between the two. If it makes you happy, I can say that Blind Guardian is a middle-ground between Manowar and Opeth. :D
