hey all, im planning a trip to the badlands on somewhat of a personal journey.
has anyone been there?
i already have the trip planned,
im going to arrive at Wall, South Dakota, then go to the national park and camp at Cedar Pass or Sage Creek campgrounds
does anyone have any suggestion as to what i should do?
and what time of year is the best to go? im trying to get out there as soon as i can.

i live in south dakota. (rapid city)
the badlands are awesome!!!
go in late spring i'd say....probably may would be best for two reasons.
1. in summer, tourists are ALL OVER that region of south dakota. the badlands are one of the most visited places here in SD, so if you want to be alone and enjoy the beauty, you dont want to come in june/july/august.
2. during the winter it is FUCKING COLD!!!!(esp nights!!) but april-may is when it starts getting warm. it stays warm till i'd say mid september-late september.
so yea to really enjoy the beautiful sunsets/rises, starfilled skies, and great views, in my opinion you need to come when its warm and you wont freeze your ass off sleeping outside.

when would you suggest coming over there?
i wanted to get there as soon as possible, but am somewhat patient because i want to make this trip worthwhile
is april or may too early?

I feel sorry for ya'll, I traveled there with a friend of mine to spend Thanksgiving with his family. There is nothing there but hicks and tractors. Move as fast as you can. Minnesota is better and that state is horrible to live in.

late april-may would be the perfect time to come. It will be warm by then, and the place wont be flooded with tourists yet.
and amsterdam, you are an idiot. Yes there are the great plains in South Dakota, and sure there are many farms here. But, places like the black hills and the badlands are amazing. Even without weed, acid, or shrooms hiking through the black hills or badlands is like a spiritual journey. I love just hiking around enjoying the beauty.
enjoy your trip justinsane, this place can really be amazing.
