ENRON: THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM
2005, A film by Alex Gibney, based on the book by "The Smartest Guys in the Room" by Peter Elkind and Bethany McLean.

A movie about accounting? Sounds dry - but this one is immensly entertaining and informative. The director has described it as a ??black comedy?, with far-reaching implications regarding greed and lack of ethics in people that had no reason to be dishonest to this extent.

Even if you??ve read the books that inspired this movie, it??s a remarkable film. Since some of the trials are starting now, this is an excellent overview of the whole sordid affair and it??s many consequences - which affected the pensions and lives of tens of thousands of people, as well as many other examples of negative outcomes resulting from greed.

I saw it tonight, rented from Hollywood Video - which smacks of some poetic justice since California was royally screwed by Enron. Their current governor, Schwarzenegger, would probably not even be there today had it not been for the phony California energy crisis created by Enron and their associates.

This is the best documentary I've seen in a long time.
