Well one day I was reading that marijuana's strength has increased alot since the 70's and I was wondering....what made it get stronger? Does mixing different strains cause cannabis to become even more powerful? I was just wondering because I dont see how all of a sudden cannabis gets way stronger than a time before lol.

well first off, the DEA has a bunch of schwagg as samples and shit, low potency shit, cause they just suck. fuckin n00bs.... secondly, my mom smoked alot of weed in the 70s (there was a smoking lounge in her school... she smoked with her teachers lol) and she said that it wasnt schwagg, that it was some great stuff.

one answer to your question is this
we have alot of new, adapted, and high tech growing techniques that make plants monsters.

it's a myth. if you compare top quality of the past (the colombian's, acapulco gold, se asian strains) to the top quality of today you'd find little to no difference...perhaps even find the best of old are better than what's around today! i have yet to find anything as strong as some nam weed smuggled in around 69-70...there's just more high quality around nowadays due to all the growers and a few breeders who know what they're doing.

I first read that and thought, "It still does." I put two and two together when one and one was good enough. I wasn't thinking, literally, a dime.

Is Marijuana use on the rise? I sure hope so. Every week, bus drivers, around here, are having accidents, the most recent into a parked car and then a house. A week ago, some bus driver (found out to be a woman) pulled into a fast-food restaurant, slammed into it in reverse, twice, and then drove away and dumped the school bus.

the thing is haze meister not saying your mom is wrong or anything but does she smoke muhc nowdays? because like she mihgt think it was really great back then because she hasnt had anything better? if u catch my drift:confused:
i think the dea would only have schwagg too they wouldnt go into the depth of advanced techniqes they would have just got sum team of garden sad acts to do it

Damn, that would be sweet to toke up with my teachers. It would make me see them in a whole new way. Too bad i was born in the eighties!
ive heard from some ppl that it was basically either shit from mexico, or some fine colombian bud. my friends mom said the best she ever smoked was called aztec gold, and it had some yellow hairs on it.

i think they purposely compared low quality samples (1% thc) to very high thc content samples today (20%) to try to exagerate there point. they say pot has become 2000% more dangerous through the years. FUCK THE GOVERNMENT and all there lies. more like its got 2000% better ;) i dunno i was around to smoke what they had back then.

I know they say it has a higher THC content these days. But doesnt that mean you SMOKE less of it to get high? This meaning less tar and all the bad shit that you would get from endlessly smoking schwagg.

Ok, here's my thing... I want to be God.
I fucking find it hard to believe that 70's weed is stronger than today's weed.
But, let's say it is... then, would it mean that the weed from the 1910's is stronget than 70's weed?
It doesn't make sense...
And what's this shit about Super 70's Strain.??? I mean, why the fuck can't we mix and cross our OWN strains to kick the 70's ass?
I'm just completely baffled by this... I would REALLY enjoy the input of people with explanations....
Best,

i don't belive it is as good as it is now,
back then they had like only 5 differant types of weed... today we got 100's and 100's of differnt types and even new ones are being created as i type this now.....
as time went on so did the tech on growing plants.. people created HPS and water systems to make the plant support more THC, i think the goal for the next 10 years would make the THC to 30%, back then it was like only 5% and had to smoke so much it probably was bad for them back then. (lets face it any smoke that gets into your system is bad, but it depens on what you smoke and how it effects you).........
PS. the best around 1970's if i am not mistaken was tie stick...

Lets start this off by saying I'm 58 and this Halloween, I will have been toking for 40 years. We were NOT smoking 1% pot back in the 60s and 70s. We had good stuff, some of it was even one-hitter pot. Yes, pot has improved in quality due to selective breeding and better ways of growing. Fab, in my neighborhood, we had WAY more than 5 strains to choose from. And just to make you drool a bit, we paid $10 an ounce and $65 for a kilo. Sometimes we would pay $15 for a full ounce of good Columbian or other exotic weed. ( When it is legal, the prices will fall dramaticly- maybe even back to the 60s level) The government line that pot has become 30 times stronger is just plain old BS. Twice as strong? Maybe. My basic advice to you kids is-- Educate yourselves (get a library card and read), don't trust the government or your schools (both lie a lot), become politically active and grow your own. Oh, and be nice to that "little old lady" teacher's aide who helps you in school- it might be me!

lets put it this way the 70's stuff was better then today's, you see back then tens of millions of people (in the states) smoked and grew and bred there plants, now there is but a remnant doing so, the govt. has largely been successfull in ending cannabis from peoples lives (due to company drug testing) It was a different time back then, less paranoia weed, it was fun weed, a time when the neighbors 6 blocks away would ask if you wanted to go tubing down the McKenzie river in eugene, Or. even though you were only 9 and they were 18 and your parent said sure go ahead, there was freedom the cops left you alone, people trusted each other, and the good times were better then the weed.

i've been telling the children, or just uneducated people in general to start reading... i can't beleive that some people don't just beleive that weed was 1% then and 20% now, but actually parade around telling people it as a fact to make them seem cool... it's a joke most people here are idiots... but i'm glad you're not:rasta:

This thread has been done before and Amen to Del for reiterating what us old fart have said over and over again. High quality back then and now but more of the HQ stuff is available today. Less and less of what we called ditchweed. But prices have gone up quite a bit. What were once young rebellious hippies growing for free weed are now older capitalist hippies growing for profit.

The U.S. government simply said it was stronger; manipulated samples / statistics to portray that alter-reality.
At the rate they're going claiming it's getting stronger and stronger, we should soon see super-satuated cannabis that is just a glob of pure THC ...
But wait, there already practically is such a thing ... tinctures of cannabis, which often contain upwards of 40% THC ... tinctures have existed for centuries - and were once widely used in the medical profession in the U.S. in the 18th, 19th centuries, and even well into the 20th century.

about a year, there was a high times or a cannabis culture that had pictures of some 70's buds.
they had the top 5 strains of that time, maui wowie, yukon gold etc, and compared them to the same strains today.
the 70's bud looked like shit and the new bud looked like the shiznet

I started smoking back in '82 and from what I've experienced, today's top quality weed isn't any better than top quality weed 20 years ago. There's just a lot more of it going around. Back then I might get something really, really good once or twice a year. Now all I get is top quality seedless dank. So, I think that if you looked at the average THC content of all weed sold in 1975 and compared it to the average THC content of all weed sold in 2005, the numbers from 2005 would be much higher. But that has nothing to do with the inherent potentail of the marijuana itself.
I read an article in the paper a while back that said the main difference is that, in the past, most weed sold in the U.S. was mass produced in Mexico and smuggled in. The focus was quantity, not quality. Now, however, most weed sold in the U.S is grown in the U.S. or Canada by people who take pride in their work and make the effort to grow good weed.

Hmmm..I've seen alot of interesting points. I still believe that eventually people mixing different strains caused the belief of stronger marijuana lol.
