I get these knot/spasm things in my back pretty often and they are extremely painful. My entire back will seize up and I can't turn my head at all. Smoking does help me quite a bit but I'm smoking super chronic medical marijuana. I'm not sure how much good mids or schwagg would do. Also, I've found that an indica strain helps much more than a sativa strain.
Other than smoking I have found that acupuncture helps a lot. It's pretty bizarre, you feel like a human voodoo doll with all these pins sticking in you, but it works miracles. I live in the San Francisco area so there are a lot of good Chinese acupuncture docs around. . If you have any where you are its worth looking into.
Other than that, warmth helps. Take a long warm shower. Or, fill a big ziplock freezer bag with rice or beans and put in the microwave for 2 minutes. Wrap it in a towel (or it'll be too hot) and just put it behind your back. The bag full of rice actually works better and stays hot longer than any fancy thing you can buy.
Hope that helps.

Opiates kill spasms dead like demestos.....although they are heavy shit.
Try erowid and look under meuscle relaxants.
Clorobramazeprine i think springs to mind its a skeletal muscle relxant and takes you a long long way from pain

Speaking from 4 years of harsh back-pain experience, I can tell you the best home remedie, above painkillers or massage or whatever, is taking a nice hot bath (as hot as you can comfortably be in).
otherwise, I'd suggest joining yoga, its' more of a long-term approach to healthy muscles, seeing as it makes you much stronger and more flexible. though after one class you'll feel better.
oh, also sitting at the computer is probably the worst thing for you.

I'd suggest joining yoga,
Yup, i do yoga as well twice a week, i have arthritis and it really helps.
That might be the ticket. Excercise of any kind helps

Massage yourself, smoke a bit (anti inflamatory) and eat plenty of saturated fats and proteins, stretch a bit, your set.

Try eating more potasium. Eat more bananas. It's not gonna be the same as a hot bath or drugs, but it certainly won't hurt and can help prevent muscle spasms.

oh and mister devious is right, the long term approach is pretty much always the best. You want fast pain release try a revolver, otherwise figure out why it hurts, and make it not do so in the future by A: not doing what hurt it and not doing anyhting about the capability of your body, or B: Rest up, heal and build yourself into a finer tuned machine. Try some Hatha yoga in a hot room for the serious muscle pains, its swanky.
