Hi i'm new to growing and have got my self a grow lamp, reflector and a 600 w sodium lamp and some cheap nirvana seeds.

The question is I'm growing in the attic and the light is hanging 3 or 4ft above the attic floor, the light goes bright white when I first switch on and then dims slightly then goes yellow colour, is that ment to happen. Also I would like advice on heating, sometimes it gets warm in attic but most the time its about body temp or above, is that ok or do I need to get a heater and will one from argos do hehe. Hope you can help.

cheers

Don't go above 28 degrees Celsius!:)

And the Sodium, that's perfectly normal!:)

Good luck:D

It takes HID lights about 5 minutes to reach full lumen output. Sometimes longer depending on the age of the bulb and the ballast used. You light sounds normal to me. Sodium bulbs emit a yellow/red light color.

If your attic is at body temp (98.6F) then it's too hot and you need vent fans to remove the hot air. Try to stay under 85 F and you should be alright.

i try to keep my grows in the low to mid 70's. the seem to produce more resin glands at lower temps. at least they do in my grows.

I'll check the temp tonight to make sure what it is.

hi again just took the temp up in my attic and its 20c or 68f is that okay for growing? Also I haven't noticed much growth recently, is a 600w sodium lamp good for growing veg stage as well as the flowering bud stage? I heard a metal c lamp would be good for veg stage but can't really afford one at the mo. what do you reckon?

cheers cb.

Yeah I noticed slow growth on my nirvana bubblelicious seedlings, mine are about a month old and look like 2 week seedlings. I've now bought a 600w Metal h off ebay. see if that does any better. :-D

Hello CB :) Yes a 600 watt MH should do very well for vegitive growth ;)
Also if required to a MH does produce enough red light to induce flowering, although it is not as good as an HPS for that job.

I would say that 20c is enough for growing in, mine are growing a lot colder than that at the moment, it does however cause the plants metobolism to slow down if it's too cold.

Good luck .................. love mand xxx:)
