Hello Luie :) If you can get a ballast that will take both HPS and MH bulbs, that is usually considered the best combination. The MH for vegitive growing and the HPS for flowering ;)

Oh can I just add and this is just my personal choice, if I had to pick just a single bulb for both veg and flowering it would be the MH ;)

yah but i only have around 200.00 to spend :(
so i dono what i should get maybe a 400 hps with some cfl on the sides...
what is cfl good for?, is it on the orange end or blue of spectrum?

Hmmmm I'm affraid I don't know anything about the cfl's, lets see what others post ;)

As for the cost, I can't say how much, I paid £200 back in 98 for my complete set up, which must be getting on for around $400 ????

Lets see what the other guys suggest ;)

Good luck...................... love mand xxx:)

I would not bother too much about the vegitive growing. In Holland we grow with HPS SON-T just one week, then shift to flowering. I know the SON-T is more on the red side, so for flowering, but it doesn't harm the plant so much. Since you are looking at a relatively small space, you may consider using a 600W in stead of a 400W, which gives you a better efficiency. A complete (new) unit would cost around 100 Euro here, which is about 120 $. Second hand would cut cost to half of that.

No problem man u worries are over:D Just do what I did I spent about 180 on my system. It works pretty good I mean I'm happy with the results. Just get a 400w HPS system (should come with the HPS-bulb) Then buy the MH conversion bulb which is about 40bucks then shipping and u good. Just remember I'm having problems with the heat and cant keep my closet door shut. So just take that info and use it. Here are 2 websites u can use that are good I used insidesun but the other ones looks really good maybe even better.

Hey!:D I didn't read the other advise, couse I'm stoned! So, if anyone has given you this adivse, it now is mine!:)

Get a HPS, and use the CFL's as sidelights, and for Veg!:)

A HPS will seriously get you the buds you need!:D

i aggree with buk an puff but buk makes more sense get a conversion kit an use both mh an hps mh for veg hps for flower or if u get another ballest and reflector an have enough space use both for double the fun cfls come in all different wave spectrums red 2700k an blu 5000k and up there good for first grows such as myself budget grows such as myself and lazy growers who dont want to worry about heat and smell issues such as myself.. good luck

If you are a little patient...lights go cheap on ebay every day...I bought 400w MH for 50-60 bucks and 250 w hps for around 60 bucks, awhile back...goodluck.lw
