Hey i was wondering how bad it would be on ones lungs if they smoked weed once a week and nothing else. And it what if any effects would it have if u used to smoke cigs and weed everyday then suddenly quit smokeing cigs and just smoke weed once a week.
Anyways i would rather someone who know a little bit about the human lungs to answer this because im in a situation. Ive been looking to an answer to this for last few day on the net and asking a shit load of people and all the answers i get are all different so im just asking because i want someone who knows what there talking about to answer this.
Thank you

I dont know a lot, but I was told once you quit smoking your lungs start to kind of rebuild themselves..I don't know if that's right, I heard it in DARE lol.

i have two do i qualify?
Let me say this
I used to smoke tobacco and after a while i felt the damage it did to my lungs, now i smoke marijuana and only marijuana no tobacco, i don't feel no damage to my lungs, i'm fit. I smoke daily.
Weed don't damage your lungs too much IMO
I dont know a lot, but I was told once you quit smoking your lungs start to kind of rebuild themselves..I don't know if that's right, I heard it in DARE lol.
yeh damn straight your lungs start repairing themselfs almost straight away after you smoke(until u smoke again)
there was a diagram in school, it was either around 5 or 10 years, i cant remember, but your lungs are basically good as new
and if youre smoking once a week well.. most people smoke every day and theyre living, so it can only be a shit load better aye? but of course you cannot accurately predict something like that, even doing it just once a week doesnt mean its good for you does it?
just fucking toke!

Well i firmly belive that weed isnt really all that bad on ur lungs. Since allot of my feinds have asthma and it helps them. But i dont want to ask my doctor about my idea because he would probly flip out or something.

also when u quit smoking your lungs become more spongier and in theory you can become fitter.

weed does affect the lungs as it is a pollutant to your lungs, but it isnt a carcinogen..if that makes sense.....weed doesnt cause you to develop cancer or black lung type diseases if that is what you are asking...anything not air you put into your airway hurts your lungs, that is common sense, but it is the amount you are worried about, and marijuana dosent kill you......
hope this helped some and yes, i am a healthcare professional...
in laymans terms i guess, happy toking...

Flesh420, if you have COPD, any smoke is very bad for your lungs. I can do research for you, but that's what a nursing student told me.

well i only have the begging stages of copd the doc told me to quit or in a year ill have it. The bottom of my lungs arnt getting nearly enough oxy as the top of them. So i figured a lil weed smoke might either help or harm since it opens the broncidul tubes to get shit out. That is what copd is caused from is the air sacks get filled with shit and it cant come out.

I am sorry but i have to say this. I think you would be very stupid if you took the advice of people on here. Why didnt/dont you consult with your doctor? He/she will be alot more capable of giving you a better answer than anyone on here.
JUst go see your doctor and ask him. He might say its alright but I doubt he will due to the seriousness of your condition.
I hope that helps.
By the seriousness of this post I hope nobody will hate me for the who am i thread.

I seriously advise you to look at buying a vapouriser because it is much healthier than other forms of consuming cannabis. But that is only if you have to use cannabis at all. Personally I think you should think long term.

I hear what you're saying but some guys on here have been in that position and may already know the answer. I know that when i post medical questions i always get accurate replies usually from beachguy. And if you can't trust beachguy who can you trust ;)

Smoking anything, whether its tobacco, weed, or carpet-fresh, is going to be bad for you (carpet-fresh in particular...). Anything that you burn with fire is going to create smoke, which contains tar, since tar is a natural by-product of burning things. However, tobacco is bad for you for many other reasons than tar. So while weed will put tar in your lungs, its not TOO bad. Besides, its like you said, THC dilates the broncial tubes, so you should be good. Particularly if you only were to do it once a week. You should be fine, as long as you stay away from carpet-fresh. It has claimed many children with its finely-scented pine smelling goodness.

Tell your doc everything bro that way he will be able to tell you if you have damage because he will be looking for it. If you just say you smoke alot and if asks if its tobacco then just say no. Tehre is something called Doctor-Patient confidentiality, he might tell your parents if you dont ask him/her not to tho.

Oh man I thought I was the only one! I had to go to rehab for that evil-carpet cleaning nightmare! carpet-fresh is one fucked up drug its like taking acid and pcp and heroin all at the same time. I used to snort entire bottles of it just to get back to normal. Carpet fresh ruined my life!

Weed is nowhere near as bad as cigs, id bet my life on it. Pot has been around for aprox. 3.6 billion years people have been smoking it since the early pre-nomadic days. The human body has actually evolved and adapted for its use (cannabinoids to be more precise) why do you think the human brain has cannabinoid receptors? Endocannabinoids? PAH. Endocannabinoids are just your body trying to compensate for lack of THC and other cannabinoids.

i've heard that weed or thc or something in it is actually a brionchiodialator or something like that, which is actually good for your lungs and like asthma and stuff, although maybe the bad carcinogens outweigh the good stuff, but does anybody know if thats true at all?

that's just down right wrong man, burning ANYTHING creates carcinogens. if I smoke the iron maiden flag on my wall, I'm going to inhale carcinogens.

Hey guy,
Talk to you the other day.
Try this link.
www.umm.edu/altmed/consConditions/ChronicObstructivePulmonaryDisease
Pay close attention to your antioxidant groups.
Ascorbic, (vitamin c in doseage I reccomended the other day)
Vitamin E
Vitamin A
These are the most powerful antioxidants for removing free radicals from smoking, (anything) from the body.
The article also will tell you the protective effects of these to the lungs.
Also mentioned is Bromelien an enzyme from pineapples that breaks up the phlem in the lungs.
The other things mentioned is magnesium and omega 3,6,9 oil.
All these supplements with a good sound diet in fruits and vegs and fish will dramatically help your condition of COPD.
I cant stress how important these things are for your condition.
Take care.

Sure, you can get all these just about anywhere. Drug store, grocery store, online, pham.
Best place to purchase the ascorbic is through the vitamin c foundation, online. But you can find this at any of these places.
Just make sure if you purchase the ascorbic somewhere else that it is NOT
magnesium ascorbic. You want to use pure ascorbic fine powder. Tablets are ok also but in powder form its easier to get down with juice as opposed to a bunch of tablets.
YOu can combine tablets and powdered form if you like. If your on the go just carry some in your pocket. Lots of water and remember every 6 hours or so keeps plasma levels steady. You can use tablets containing ascorbic with bioflavinoid as well thats even better. But pure ascorbic powder mixes best with fluid.
When you measure out the powdered form to covert milligrams to grams just move the decimal three places to the left. For example:
1000 milligrams=1gram.
So 3 grams is roughly a heaping teaspoon.
One important note.
Since you have this lung condition it is imperative to avoid a pneumonia type condition. This could kill you. The ascorbic will help keep your lymphocytes very active in combating virus such as pneumonia. lymphocytes are the bodies own killers of foriegn invaders. They are directly fueled by ascorbic.
So if you feel a cold starting to come on it is real important to start increasing this doseage even higher.
I have taken up to 200 full grams in 24 hours to wipe out pneumonia. Perfectly safe. Just make sure to take at least 200iu of vitamin e with it. And lots of water.
You take these high doses of during an illness to stop a free radical cascade
from overwhelming the body. The ascorbic carries an extra electron. This extra electron will neutralize a free radical cascade. But you must take much higher doses during the onset of illness to stop the cascade. If a free radical is not neutralized it can do damage elsewhere in the body.
So the method is called "titration" developed by a Stamford scientist.
You take 3 full grams of powdered ascorbic every 3 hours until diarea occurs.
Once diarea occurs back off that amount slightly until the diarea stops hold that amount until symptoms clear. Works very well.
Your body can use much more ascorbic when your sick than when your not sick so it is using this fuel to give energy to lymphocytes to fight the free radical cascade of the virus. Works on flu also.
vitamin A and E are fat soulble so your body will store these in fat cells.
Vitamin C, (ascorbic) is water soulble and is quickly eliminated in the urine in hours that is why you need to take ascorbic every 6 hours or so.
Aside from the dose of ascorbic of 10-12 grams a day, follow label directions on everything else. Dont take more than label directions on A and E since they are stored in the body.
A yearly pneumonia shot is highly recommended also.
Take care.
