Hi.. I don't know how this could be, but here it goes..
The electricity company called today, and told us that in 2004, we used 4000 KwH, and in 2005 it was up to 10000!!! How could this be??! Could a HPS use THAT much in electricity?

yes powder puff i had the same thing happen last year though they never visited me the wrote a letter i wrote back telling them that for the first quarter we were doing dampness repair and the heaters and dehumidefiers use loads of elec and they were on 24/7 for three and half month that gave me time to sort the prob and lower my bill to the normal Kwh that i was using ,this is how many growers get busted it is ok if you are a knew owner of the property as you can have your bills regular but when people start growing in existing property then the elec company notice straight away ,they investigate in case it is their equipment that is faulty and if the investigator is a square then he WILL report you but most will let it go once they find out it is customer use rather than company fault that is why i had my son make me something up that prevents my elec meter reading that i have used that many Kwh so my bill will alway be around the same givee or take 50 ,60£ best of luck mate give them a reason for this use or they will investagate ,

400w eats up about 9 amps @ 120v. Yes it's expensive to run lights.
Just tell them you have several computers running for school for a project and they run 24/7

its got to be that just doesnt add up mate thats well off ,When they come out to inspect the meter they will ask if you have been using any high usage appliances tell them you had a damp problem and had to use an industrial heater and a industrial dehumidifier and that you hired these peices of equipment and they ran constantly from aug to sep to solve your damp problem they will then procedd to check your meter as they will realise that this equipment would cause a jump in kwh usage but not the amount you meter is using and insist the problem is with your meter because you have used this equipment before and your usage was not that much ,this will take let them know you know what you use and it will stop them investigating your usage DO NOT even contemplate stop growing puff that is not the way

Yeah.. I might, and might not stop.. Maybe I'll sell some off the bud and give my mom the extra cash that the HPS uses..
I just rememberd that sometime in march we had a leaky toilet, and needed a dehumidifier.. It was on for three days 24/7.. And I also had ten friends over for a LAN party.. Ten computers.. But did you say, that the HPS couldn't have used up THAT much electricity?: )
I talked to my mom, she said, if I also grew her some tomato plants (real ones lol) I could maybe have another grow, but then that electricity thing came along.. I don't hope I have to stop.. I won't stop comming here anyways..:D
Hello PP:) Tell you what, mums are easy to get around just buy her a bunch of flowers and offer to wash the dishes for a week or so and she will soon forget the electric bill.
That's what my kids always do when they are in bother with me .......... it works honest ;)

An increase from 4MWh to 10MWh over a year based on a single 400 HPS seems imposible. 6MWh/400W = 15.000 burning hours, = 1.250 blossoming days (on 12 hrs cycle) = 156 weeks = 20 harvests On 8 week cycle).... We calculate here in Holland 1.6MWh per 4 x 600 HPS at a 9 week cycle. (Which is 1 week growing at 18 hrs cycle and 8weeks blossoming on 12 hrs cycle)
Even when you would have put on a single electrical heater of 2000W it means you should have had it on for at least 125 days, based upon 24/7 operation.
Seems to be an error indeed. No way the LAN party could have that bill jumped up to this extend. Did you apply electrical heating for the period October-November? If you did, you may consider gas heating rather then electrical.

DAM POWDER PUFF THAT IS A REAL BIG JUMP. MY JAN 05 KWH WAS 3172
JAN 06 KWH WAS 3120
WAIT TIL NEXT MONTH WHEN I SLAP THAT 400W HPS IN, I RUN MY BUISNESS FROM MY HOUSE AND I RUN HEATERS IN MY TRUCKS , SO THEY DONT FREEZE. THEY MUST GET A REWARD FOR TURNING SOMEONE IN, FOR GROWING . SEE THE COMPANY COULD HAVE JUST LET YOU PAY THE 10000KHW BILL AND MAKE MONEY. TO MANY SNITCHES OUT THERE , TRYING TO COME UP.

I had a HUGE electricity jump a couple months ago. At first I thought it was from my lights but it turns out it was a room heater. when the fan kicked off the heating element remained on. Non-stop.
My point is don't assume it's the light. Anything in your house that uses electricity can malfunction and start your meter spinning.
Go outside and watch the wheel on your meter at the time when your lights switch off. See if it slows down when they shut off. If it doesnt then start flipping breakers off until you find which breaker slows it down when shut off. Then find whatever appliances are on the breaker and check them out.

Hi, Puff
I'm a residential electriction and know some of the power guys. I caught my meter reader one day after just starting and he said my bill was up a bit. I laughed and told him I have power tools and a welder, a big one. He wrote it on his paper and said don't worry. I told him it might go up more, he laughed and said no problem. Haven't heard a word since. They just don't want to hear complaint about it being high. Give them a reason and no problems.

cost me 80-100 bucks a month for 1400 watts and 1/2 hp pump and 8 dual airpumps and fans and AC...
1 400watt hps is no different than operating 1 computer
P.S. If you want to grow tomato's...use pure blend pro and calmag+ and liquid karma(optional)...you will grow nice tomato's for your mom

Tell them it's winter and you have electric heaters!
Tell mom you will get a job to pay for bills....Then she can't complain!
As long as you pay the bill there should be no problem!
