View Full Version : what cultures are represented here?
forestpark

hey - i enjoy the freedom of the semi-anonymous nature of these boards... i'd like to know what cultures are being brought to this common table-
i'm a second generation Scot living in the pacific northwest. i'm in finance- and i'm a former Marine...
if i had to pick a label from societies list... i suppose it would be the Gen X/Nirvana type...
(i know it goes without saying, but please keep this cordial...)

psycho and everyone else...
i have a very strong gut feeling that i would get along well with virtually everyone here... maybe we could all go camping together...
we could laugh at how different our "identities" make us seem from the outside...
i often get entirely bored by the people who would fill up the "peer group" that my parents try to fit me in...
LOL
life sure is funny

ironic. i can't talk about herb with hardly anyone i know, so i had hoped i could be a little more human here... a little less "in the herb closet"
maybe thats not the case.
oh, and it's critical that i make it clear that i was ENLISTED. if i had been an officer, i don't know if i would have mentioned it...

Culture? But you listed your nationality, where you live, occupation, and generation buzz word... What are you even asking?? You want everyone to list their nationality, occupation, location, and age??
Even so that still would not be people's "Culture"...

:D Its a different world up here north of the border, well for a little while at least, its gravy train time for crooks.
Your a different kind of person arent you forest, they top you out at corporal? competent but unorthodox? maybe master sergeant if you had a good Lieu and section c.o, w/e its politics, and thats why troops dont know better then to clump up in groups of four and chat in basra! whoooomp! rpg= no legs...show that on cnn why donta ya... :p

canadabis - thanks for replying... maybe at one point i was conservative and law abiding... years after i got out of the Marines, i developed Celiac Disease. very bad stuff... after i started smoking herb again (i had stopped for years), the pain from Celiac was GONE...
it was kinda a revelation for me... how could something this non-toxic and pain-relieving be ILLEGAL? there are some ASSHOLES in charge of something somewhere, and i've got a fist i've been waiting for years to hit them with.
anyway, i loved the fact that in the marines, whites are a minority. (enlisted only, officers are still a part of the "system")... it seemed fair... we were on an even playing field and believe it or not, during working hours we all got along very well...
i can only speak for the unit i was in: 2/11 echo battery scout teams for the majority of the time...
i got out as a sergeant, and i still laugh at that... i could run fast and shoot straight, and thats sometimes enough to get you promoted in life...
i wonder what sun tzu would say about that?

Sun tzu would tell you that the battle was decided before you set foot on it's empty page, and that the learning of his texts was rendered moot by having uttered it, sun tzu created the ultimate pace by destroying war.
You are the scale on the breast of a dragon; your failure could devour the thing you grew from, and your sucess could easily be engulfed by the arrogance of the beast ; the failure of the acomplice.
The general is the only man alone.

ok, so the thread might not be going in the direction that i had thought it would, but it's interesting to me at least...
canadabis... have you ever read Hagakure? i just started it and its a lot easier to comprehend than the art of war, but its still just as deep and true...

You know forest, if you can believe it. I have an understanding of warmaking akin to almost no other.
It is life, life is war, war from breath to breath in decisions. Indescision is worse then death, it is the dissoloution of your soul.
Lovemaking and warmaking are actually very very simialar.
Not in the practice, but in the theory, and how the theory becomes a toy to those that practice. What is a rule to the unskilled is a tool to the capable.
VICTORY REQUIRES NO EXPLANATION< DEFEAT ALLOWS NONE.

man, you would have been a welcome member on the scout teams... good conversations were sanity savers when we were stuck near the top of the mountain while training in the mojave... we'd be sitting there waiting for the guns to go hot, and we'd talk about some thick stuff...
i like your quote about victory and defeat, but i'm fallin asleep at the keyboard...
peace all,
