Internet Recipe For Tea Nearly Kills Teen
Angel's Trumpet Plant Can Be Hallucinogenic

POSTED: 6:41 am EST January 20, 2006

A batch of homemade tea made from a common flower in Central Florida has left a 17-year-old Titusville, Fla., boy fighting for his life, according to a Local 6 News report.

David O'Bryan Taylor, known as Bryan, is at Florida Hospital in Orlando waiting to find out why his heart is misfiring and whether he'll need a pacemaker.

About two weeks ago, Taylor brewed a batch of tea from the leaves or flowers of an Angel's Trumpet to get high, according to Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

Taylor said he followed directions he found on the Internet and accidentally overdosed. The drink nearly killed him, according to the report.

"I'm scared to death for him," his mother, Gloria Ryle told Florida Today. "They wake him up at night because his heart skipped seven beats and he doesn't even know it."

The shrub-tree with trumpet-like flowers is common in Florida and occasionally has been controversial because of its use as a hallucinogen.

In 1995, the city of Maitland banned planting Angel's Trumpet after two teens there died after ingesting it. Locally, in 2000, two teens from Indian Harbour Beach were hospitalized after drinking the poisonous tea, according to the report.

Local law enforcement officers and others say they've seen only a few cases over the past decade, but one is too many.

"It's not very common at all, nor would we like it to be," said Titusville Police Department spokesman Warren Van Vuren.

Five years ago, the Centers for Disease Control reported that more than 230 people had died in one year from psychotropic drugs of all types in Florida, including Angel's Trumpet.

Whew, that's harsh shit. I wouldn't touch that stuff, at all!

I also read quite some time ago that another kid drank this tea, he went outside, came back in 20min later, and had cut off his own tounge and penis while under the influence of this stuff.

Sounds about as intelligent as downing a few cupfuls of oleander "tea". Effects may include: death!

I have been working up the nerve to try the trumpets, datura, brugmansia or similar. It isn't un-intelligent lemonboy, it is just far more powerful then anything you've tried.

That's not true.

You don't have nearly that much coordination. You're in a state of delirium experiencing inner hallucinations. It's an intense spiritual experience. Not to be fooled around with.

I don't give a shit about this kid, quite frankly. He is just another who's giving a bad name to psychadelics. If you dont know how to measure a fucking dose don't eat something that serious!

Student cuts off penis and tongue after drinking hallucinogenic tea
Ananova - Story filed: 10:45 Tuesday 23rd September 2003

A student cut off his own penis and his tongue after drinking an infusion of the latest drugs craze to sweep Germany.

The 18-year-old, only named as Andreas W, from Halle in Germany drank a tea made with the hallucinogenic angels' trumpet plants.

His mother said: "Andreas was behaving normally the whole day until he left the house and disappeared into the garden for a couple of minutes."

When he returned to the house he was wearing a towel wrapped around him and was bleeding heavily from his mouth and between his legs.

The emergency doctor who arrived a few minutes later said the student had cut off his penis and his tongue with garden shears and it was impossible to reattach the organs.

Dr Andreas Marneros, from the local psychiatric hospital the student was admitted to, said: "Andreas will have to receive psychological help for years. Tea from Angels' Trumpets is extremely dangerous as the drug cannot be dosed."

Angels' Trumpets, known for their fragrant and trumpet shaped flowers, have increasingly become popular as an alternative drug in Germany.

Well, trust me, I know my shit, and this story is either a hoax (propaganda to worsen the name of psychadelics) Or he cut off his dick and tounge for personal reasons. It couldn't have been done on the tea. Not in a million years

I worry about news stories like that though because you are never told whether it was the only substance he had in his body. He could have taken a plethora of things that led to delirium that may be conveniently left out of the piece.

I don't think you understand. That is what Angel's Trumpet does. It puts you into a state of udder delerium. When you drink the tea, this is what your trying to acheive. In this state of delirium the subject is often flailing uncoordinatedly or rolling in physical pain on the ground. But the user dosen't experience this pain, for he is in an altered state of conciousness of which only that reality can be perceived.

These striking plants produce flowers that perfume the night air with their exotic fragrance. All parts of Brugmansia are toxic when ingested. Pre-teens and teenagers in Florida have been made extremely sick by eating parts of the plant, making tea from the flowers, ingesting seeds and smoking the dried leaves in search of a "legal high". Once tried, few will attempt it again and warn their friends to stay away from it. Symptoms of Brugmansia poisoning include:* Hallucinations, dry mouth, muscle weakness, increased blood pressure and pulse, fever, dilated pupils, and paralysis. Toxic Principles of the plant are: Atropine, scopolamine, and hyoscyamine.

^^^Ok kids.

Now stop fucking with the Shaman's plants :D

Rasta is correct. There is a plethora of plants out there that can get you high, so to speak, however, messing with them is not a good plan unless you are guided by someone who is very experienced in their use. Utilizing native plants for spiritual enlightenment is an age old technique but many (if not most) of those techniques for preparation are long since lost. But the stories and legends of their propeties and effects linger on. Unless you really know what you're doing, it's a bad idea. Much like looking for edible mushrooms is a bad idea unless you have a good teacher who can lead you to the safe ones.
Then again, it could fall in to the category of being natures way of weeding out the stupid.

These kind of drugs (brumansia, datura) are notoriusly toxic. It should of been taken more responsibly. I've taken datura on a few occations but I never fcked up the dose enough to die (obviously)
So yea, it's not the drug's fault. It's the user. This should be an example for all drugs. They teach Sex Ed why not Drug Ed? People need to understand how to properly use these psychoactive tools.
