NEW ORLEANS Nearly five months after Hurricane Katrina, more than 32-hundred people are still officially unaccounted for.
Initially, nearly eleven-thousand-500 people were reported missing to a national call center run by federal and state workers. That included people from throughout the Gulf Coast area -- but mostly from Louisiana.
As of today, all but about 32-hundred have been found.
It's possible that some of the missing were washed into Lake Pontchartrain, or that their bodies are still in the rubble that covers much of the city. At least one family returning to a wrecked home in the past few weeks found the remains of a relative.
The state's medical examiner says he'll ask officials to re-check about 400 addresses where there's been consistent information about people missing in badly-flooded neighborhoods.
Some of the people listed as missing may have been found already by relatives, but the call center hasn't been notified. Others may not want to be found, because they face legal problems.
