View Full Version : What does a healthy 2 week old plant look like?

Garden Knowm
01-18-2006, 02:46 AM
This plant was started from seed.
A MANGO seed.
It was a bag seed placed in a rockwool cube and sprouted in 1 day.
At 3 days it was put into a larger rockwool cube 2x4x4.
At 5 days, it was put in soil

The soil is MIRACLE GROW. LOL.
The room stays at about 70 degrees.
I think it is a 1 gallon container.

It is 14 days old 4.5 inches tall.
The 5th node is just forming.

It has 3 cfl' directly on top of it. 2(150 watt) and 1(200watt) CFL.

There are 5 additional CFL's within 6 inches of the plant

Notice how close the cfl's are to the plant.

The container was watered twice thouroughly..
1 gallon of water each time.
No FERTS
PH level... 8.0 (not the correct PH- correct PH would be 6.8)

Letme know if you would like to see more.

I often wonder where those plants w/soil sitting at 4.0 or 8.0 are getting their nutrients from,,when they look so Healthy and vigorous. When everything you read tells you otherwise?? How much better would they really look if the soil was at 6.8??

If you used miracle-grow there are ferts in there, they will sometimes last up to 2 mos, you should wait three months after use of miracle grow to eat or smoke,Just a sugestion..... use something organic w/water.and the water is also ph balanced, when the time comes..

Garden Knowm
01-18-2006, 06:16 AM
yes toni..
absolutley
the point of the grow is to show how easy it is to grow..
MG is definitley not the choice of soil and actually many people have had problems with it on this site..

This is an experiment for newbies to see
Especially people who start from seed
So many people post pics of their seedlings at two weeks and they are 1/5 the size of this monster and 3 inches taller..

So I came across this seed and thought I'd show a healthy BUGGER..

: )

PH 8 water to show that with MG SOIL.. you can just add water

The water comes out of the tap here at 242 ppm.
And must be filtered/RO to use in Aeroponic sytems. But it will be fine for a soil grow.

cheers!

ouch I have same problom in my grow room, but they havent started feeding on my plants yet, thank god.I really keep the floor clean every day i sweep or vacume or mop it,That helps w/bugs as well,as those pesky mice I set mouse traps every night and catch them every night, its a never ending battle.I just dont want anything nonorganic in my grow room. I heard once that x-lax works really well, but not if you have alot of them,That would not be a pretty site to walk into,10 mice who have shit them selfs to death in your grow room, yucky, anyone else have some good advice??? By the way that plant is off the hook for her age??Keep us updated?

My wife is far to soft, and wants me to catch them alive, god knows how. Here is the plants just before harvest, the second batch is looking better due to me not over watering them, i will post pics of them soon. I also have a grapefruit X earlybud, im verry keen to try it out, as i loved to smoke both of the strains.

Hey leem
That picture you posted... is that a real plant? Or is it a GHOST of a dead plant?

So what you saying, that these arnt my plants?. Its part of the same crop that i posted earlyer, just much later on in the grow. I have 2 grow rooms with about 4 weeks between them, 21 plants in total. I have just started a new batch of early bud witch i got the seeds from the first grow. Dont try to make me out to be a lyer, becouse you will just end up looking stupid. I can show you pics of all the grows i have done and you will see they have all been grown in the same location.
Ok, calm down people...
Leem, here's the situation:
The thread is about a "healthy" plant.
You posted pics of your plants. Garden is taking a shot at you by saying that they look like "ghosts". He's just teasing you dude... He isn't saying your a liar. He's just taking cheap shots at your plants.... just tell him that he gOOgled his images... or that his pictures are made in PhotoShop...
But again, no, he isn't calling you a liar.

Please people, let's be polite....

Ok heres some new pics, why would i lie im really not that sad. The pics are of the second grow room. Ok now, or would you like a dated photo. What is your problem.
Dude! He has no problem!

He called your plants a "ghost" becuase, in the context of this thread, it looks "dead"... thus, a ghost.

He's comparing your plants to his super healthy 2week old plant... dude, there's no point in arguing. He isn't insulting you.... let it go dude...

Hey gK, question:::
How do you manage the airflow between CFLs and the plants?

Do you have a fan blowing on them? A/C room?

Garden Knowm
01-22-2006, 09:39 PM
Hi gents...

This is an experiment.... simplicty is the GOAL

MG soil, never adjust the ph of the water
no fan, just going bare minimum to show it can be done...

BUT - PHing water and fans are highly suggested for anybody who wishes to grow succesfully..

unless your name is GARDEN KNOWM!!!!!!!!

I mean, if I placed CFLs as close as that to my plants, without a fan, I'll scorch them!

BTW: Did you see my clones?!! :D

These rust brown areas look like a "K" deficiency on the Blue Spot (plant started from clone). (not the plant in picture above)

This deficiency is probably directly related to the 8.0 PH water this plant has been receiving

If you look at the chart you can see that the plant has trouble up taking Phosphorous (k) when the PH is above 7.5

Hopefully this problem can be fixed by flushing with water PHed at 6.0

PLANTS are freaking incredible
Experimenting with 8.0 water was STOPPED (LOL). Watering took place about once a week with 6.8 PH water and 7 drops of schultz African Violet 8-14-9 fert... This is about 1/3 the recomended amount.. considering how much water was used...

Plants were flooded and then allowed to dry.. and then flooded again...

Blue Dots are in 1/2 gallon pots and Mango is in 2 gallon pot(?).
No signs of being root bound...

I will post pics late tonight..

Here are some pictures of the Mango that was flowered when it was 15 days old from seed and only 5 inches tall.... (you can see a picture of it at 19 days old if you scroll up)

It is NOW 21 inchs tall...

It did not want to flower... Since it was flowered (so very young)with only 4 nodes (none of them were alternating) and 4 inches tall, this plant took nearly 3 weeks to show sex!

It will probably be ready for harvest in 20-30 days. This is a perfectly healthy normal plant. The yellowing is perfect for this stage in its life with the lighting it has...

Garden Knowm
02-18-2006, 08:56 AM
This is a blue dot
that is growing right next to the mango....

It was started from clone....

These plants took VERY VERY little effort to grow... water once a week...
at most.. The Blue Dot was grown in a 1/2 gallon pot....

From the two or three burnt tips, I guess you have to keep the bulbs very close all the time, right?

8 CFL's... LOL serious.. 8 - 150 watt cfl's...

3 plants.. although the pictures are of just one plant
There was enough room for 1 more plant to get the same amount of lighting
Yes.. all the tips are burnt.. Lights touched leaves all the time...
The rational was this.. a little bit of incidental burning was less harm than keeping the light more than 1 inch away

FYI- I did not grow these plants.. SeeMore did..

But... I'm sure "LOVE" is something special right GK? Lol, like if it was the code name for some secret government stuff that makes plants grow like crazy. 150 watt cfl's? I've been trying to find them. I've gone from store to store asking if they have em but they don't. I've been looking on the web and the only 150 watt cfl's I've seen are those big ones and they cost a lot more. I know the 32 watt have 150 watt equivilent and it costed the same. I nearly bought one before I realized it had 32 watts in fine print on it. BTW, I also seen red and blue cfl's. The glass was actually red and blue so I'm not entirely sure if I should even bother. I think I will be experimenting with MG with a couple of my plants. Since I always seem to have trouble getting correct nutes with ProMix BX.

Just to double check you never added any extra nutes? You just used the ones that were in the soil already right out of the bag.

I'm using MG also and using tap water (PH has been a little high) and I'm having success with those plants (check thread about flowering or not). These guys are geniuses secretly.

why dont you check the Ph of the run-off? then you will know if it does work like that....

you watered only 3 times in 19 days? so from the time you planted the seed, thats it?

Some times the plant required water every 3 days.. othertimes every 10 days... the average was about every 7 days.. 1/2 to 1 gallon of water....

The temps stayed around 70 degrees....

If a soil plant is watered correctly, it should not need frequent waterings... just large quantities at each particular watering...

does anyone actually know the PAR values for these lights? i doubt anyone that uses CFLs in a grow would happen to have spent the money on a PAR meter? this tread should be a sticky.

Check out my grow I'm using MG, and yes I have had issues. I on the other hand am also using shake feed, It is working perfect since I started using the SnF. I have only had to flush it once, and that was only cause I was nervous. . . I am for sure going Hydro for my next grow. Can anyone link me to putting a clone into a Hydro system?

Halogen lights are great to light up your garage, but garbage for growing plants of any kind.

If you want good grow lights, look into MH (Metal Halide) and HPS (High Pressure Sodium) Or LED (Light Emitting Diode)

I've also seen some get away with CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light (The little spiral screw in bulbs))

That being said, I'm not a lighting expert, and check my sig line for more advice ;)
