right, I've finnaly decided to upgrade to a 400 HPS from my 250. What I want to know is, can I just buy a 400 watt ballast and bulb and use my 250 reflector with them or shall i just buy a whole new light?

I think you should just buy a whole new light :).

I think it should.. It's only the ballast that has to work with the bulb, am I right? Go save another 10£ and buy an 1/8:D

The reflector can be used without any problems. Just match the bulb to the ballast and you'll be fine.

i thought about trying this....i have a 400W MH and a 1000W HPS....

but the connection to the refector from the 400 ballast is different from the connecter from the 1000 ballast.

so i dont know if this will vary in your case...or from 250 to 400....but it did for me from 400 to 1000...

...ill hopefully take some pics tonight and show you tomorrow.

you have to Adapt/Improvise...it's an ongoing, perpetually flowing situation...
I think you probably could. You can take lights completely apart. NOT FOR the Timid!!!
I WOULD NOT ReCOMMEND you do this at home; Unless you know what you are doing or are Supervised by someone who does... DANGER  DANGER

In answer to :question:...As long as the 400bulb isn't too much longer than the 250bulb,
It should work fine.lw :smokin:
