Many people would consider such a club racist and fight to prevent its establishement but not because they are ignorant. I think it has more to do with the fear and shame that our socitey has with regard to a less then picture perfect history of race relations.

Do you go to a public school? If so, then there might be a question of legality.

It would definitly be racist if somebody was denied membership based on their race. If you are white, tell them that you are interested in joining their club, and if they refuse to let you (join), call the ACLU and demand action. If the ACLU refuses to help, go to the press.

Being aware of discrimination and racism, whatever the circumstances are, does not mean that someone is "ignorant".

why should there be a double standard?

the name is racist,Black student united club. if it is not meant just for blacks then why not call it student united club ,what is the diffarence if you are black or white, this is a touchy subject in britian as well as around the world i have lots of freinds in britain who are black and they say that because the way the blacks were treated in the past it was drummed into them to stick to their own kind that has carried on in some households though not all but we are just reaping what our forefathers sowed as our grand parents were not very respectfull to the blacks, god i hate even saying that word it sounds racist on its own we are all people and should treat others accordingly
but sadly that is not the case with some, i personaly dont even think about colour and teach my kids that all people should be treated with respect and if all parents done the same we could leave all this shit behind us ,When i was in the army a black lad saved my life twice i never thought ,that black dude just saved my life ,i thought that dude fuckin saved me ,so try and join and if they stop you dont take it lying down as this racist shit has to be sorted from both side of the fence .
peice and harmony to all mankind thats what i say :rasta: :pimp: :rasta:

I agree, it will never change, I made a stink about the "black pledge of allegiance" at my gf's school(she teaches) and they never responded, its mostly black but then teachers make the white students say it also, so basically they are given no choice, parents dont seem to be asking questions, and since i dont have a child there Im not relevant

Here in England we have a lot of projects set up exclusivly for ethnic minorities for example Afro community centres, Asian community centres, there have also been stories in the news about ethnic minoritys being fast tracked into the police force over more able white candidates.

I think it is an insult for any one to be fast tracked anywhere or given special priority becuase of the colour of their skin, I also think that anyone with any self respect would agree with this.

It seems to me that the government will go to extreme lengths to show that it is not racist but in doing so they discriminate against anyone not from an ethnic minority.

It an overused one now but 'political correctness gone mad' is the phrase that comes to mind.

I think you should set up a white peoples club. If the blacks can have one, than so can you. Double standards.

Not particularly. The idea of a Whites United group is moot, seeing that "white people" already have their shit together.

the black community would do well to support each other (not just as a family unit, though most blacks do this extroadinarily well, more so than alot of ethnicities IMHO).

However, I don't see the need for a 'Blacks United' group, because the name alone discourages other ethnic groups from trying to join.

Overused and misused... I prefer the phrase "social awareness." In reference to one of your concerns, there is a purpose to diversifying those in law enforcement and others who serve a diverse public. Commenting in general, we haven't come nearly as far as some would like to think (and as some unfortunately fear).

In a related story, at my college, there is white this kid who thinks he can rap, has the stereotypical black wardrobe (millions of sneakers, jerseys, doo rags, etc.), tries to "talk black", and only hangs out with black people, and only dates black girls. I know, that he sounds like the stereotypical "wigger", but even they know the truth deep down. This kid seriously thinks he's black. This kid is also the treasurer of the Black Students United club at my school.

I mean, I'm all for everybody being able to choose whatever group they want, but wtf? Why don't I join Transgender Koreans Wicca Awareness Club? I mean, I CAN, but why?

You said it! They'll fight for everyone EXCEPT the white male. That is the only sector not considered minority.
