yeah
so my brother is 18, and hasn't even got a car yet. I have about $3000 i've saved up over the years for a car, and my brother has about $1,000... so we have about $4,000 and then my grandpa is sort of rich ( not meaning to leech off him ) but he has a bentely, and i think he can help us out with a couple thousand dollars...

Basically, we're looking for a reliable car that would be good for the next 6-8 years... it need to get good gas mileage, and has to be very reliable.

Some cars that are coming too mind are:

Hondas, Scions etc.

I'm gonna either go with a used car, or a repossessed car. My dad says that repossessed cars are a good idea, but normally they go for sale in auctions.

what would you go for if you had more cash?

definatly look at some auctions, they are awesome. i got my grand cherokee at one for 2gs. just make sure you take someone with experience with you to check out the ones you would like to bid on to make sure they are in good running order. and make sure you know what the car is worth so you dont overpay

Kia are pretty cheap cars and their new car price is about a used car price but i dont know how reliable they are

from what ive heard Kias suck pretty bad...as much as I dislike ricers...a honda is probaly the best bet..cheap...cheap to fix...long lasting

the thing is, this car has to last for quite awhile

i'm 15 right now, i'll be 16 when i drive... i'll then pass it on to my little brother to use in highschool when i go to college when i'm 19.

it's kind of cool in that we're going to just keep passing the car down...

hopefully my grandpa can help me out, i mean... for shit sakes he has a bentely.

Definately one of the new Scions. there around $10,000-16,000

pretty expensive, but good gas mileage... there reliable, and also are very comfy and have a great speaker stystem in them.

Either that or a civic...

maybe.

theres lots of cars i would want.

i Doubt that me and my brother could spend more than $10,000 on a car... especially since theres a slight chance of us crashing the car. Yes, sad i know hahaha

i don't like those boxy scions, but the cars with the big sunroofs look pretty cool

scions are some of the f*cking ugliest cars...but gas milage and durability I would still suggest a honda...even though i dont personally like them

I'd say to go with a Dodge Intrepid. I have one from '96 and it still runs great with few problems. I don't drive it too much so I'm not sure about gas mileage.

How bout something like a Ford Focus, nice little hatchback, fairly low insurance group, if you get one with something like a 1.4 litre engine fuel econom would probably be something like 45mpg.

Sharing a car with your brother sounds like a shit eating idea.

I see plenty of arguments, nights spent crying, and maybe even lawsuits comming your way.

i love my hyundai elantra gt...ok, sounds like a piece of shit huh? consider...

1) past the year 2000, hyundai quality has skyrocketed, rivaling japanese (honda) cars
2) get the gt HATCHBACK...comes standard with leather and a sunroof. now thats fun
3) got mine used for $7k, 2002 model, black, nice :)

it's a fun little car. you can pile people in and no probs...4 doors definitely, if you buy a 2 door you'll be kicking yourself in the ass later. it reminds some people of a saab...check it out!

$6k to $7k???

Used Civic, Corolla, Sentra 2001 or older. Should be able to find one around 45k miles for that price.

Scion is too new to have any used worth a damn in your price range.

Also consider a used Focus.

True.

Toyota??s problem was that it did not make a sporty Corolla, unlike Honda that has always made a sporty Civic. Toyota had the Celica but it was a step up in price equal to Honda??s, Acura Integra. At the same time Toyota never did a Lexus model to compete with the Integra. And for a 15 year old kid he will always want the sporty civic over the family Corolla.

Of course that is exactly why Toyota launched ??Scion? to fill that cheap, sporty, FWD market that Honda has benefited from in the USA for so long.

But I guess the fact that Toyota has become the #2 auto maker in the world, about to become #1 over GM, I guess there strategy has worked;)

It's funny how American car companies refuse to make diesel-engine cars, what with everyone complaining about gas and all. Diesel gas is cheaper, and you get almost twice the mileage than with regular gas, and they're very reliable.

American car companies are making and have made diesel engines, for decades. And they have been available for decades in the UK and Europe. All Ford, Vauxhall, Chevey, Mazda, Saab, Jaguar, Volvo, etc. etc. cars offer several diesel engine options in Europe and Asia.

They just don??t offer them in North America because gasoline is still inexpensive here compared to there.

The same is true for Honda, Toyota, Mercedes etc. They all offer diesel engines in Europe that the don??t offer in NA. The Honda diesel available in Europe is supposed to be just about the best diesel engine ever built. But we don??t get it here.

P.S. here is a now very famous advertisment for Honda's new diesel. Famous every where but the USA because they dont offer this engine here. Our UK members will know this commercial well with American, Garrison Keillor - http://paultan.org/wp-content/hondachange.swf

the ironic station wage. i <3 my mercury tracer. it gets great mileage (i drive 53 miles to my boyfriend's house, only uses a quarter tank, as opposed to his half-full tank to get to my house in his suv) and it's just great in general.

Ohh.. I just saw the nicest Mustang.. It's from 1985, new engine (510 HP:D) but the car itself could use just a little bit repairs.. nothing a little paint job and a nice stereo can't cure.. Anywasys it's only 3500 £:D:D I can afford it!!:D I think I'm getting it.. Have it in my garage until I turn 18.. Get it fixed in the meanwhile.!:D

I don't want to start driving because I don't do much exercise, eat what I want and the only reason I think I'm slim is because I have to walk everywhere.

My dad bought me lessons for my 21st though so there goes that out the window

A 510 mustang would be a hell of a lot of fun. Make sure it has some seriously big ass rear tires because it will need them to be able to put that kind of power down. I had a 1990 Mustang and they are very front heavy. Also get a few extra pairs of back tires because you will burn those babies up real fast

Sounds nice. I was VERY close to buying a 1980 camaro z28 with an engine from a 1996 corvette. The guy showed me the dyno sheet with 410hp on it. Took it out and drove it: In a straight line, it was amazing, able to spin the tires all the way into 3rd gear. BUT, pretty much everything else mechanical about the car besides the drivetrain was shot. Suspension, brakes, exhaust. I just couldnt justify paying $3500 and then having to turn around and invest another 2grand just to make it safe to drive.

Have fun with the stang tho!

Yeah.. I'm still not ENTIRELY sure about it.. It might be more wrong with it.. Mind you.. I WOULD love to own a mustang.. My all time favorite car!:D

I haven't seen it upclose, but a friend of mine has, and says it look E(SEX)ELENT!:D

And there is the issue on the suspension and I don't know if it's rusted... But fuck man.. 510 horses! That's close to a fucking Ferrari!:) The engine would be worth the deal on it's own!

An Acura Integra would be cool and will last a long time. Find one that hasn't been run to hell of course. Pulled 200K miles off mine and sold it working fine. I wish I still had it sometimes but I needed the money at the time. Really fun to drive.

Awwe, memories. :\
