Well you firstly need to cut your hair---i dont mean all off, just a simple cut.
Then maintain your hair by using conditioner, mousse and hairspray

A brush man. It is going to teat some out, and it will hurt, but that is the only way to get that hair unmatted.

Further more, comb your hair everyday! :D Then your hair won't get all knotted up. Use conditioner when you shower as well, that will help with the toughness of getting a brush through it

i tried to brush it out...but to no avail....

I would brush it everyday but it goes afro if i do....lol....

Brush your hair but dont do it all together do it section by section
keep rest tied back you might have to use abit of force and take abit of pain but it will be worth it in the end .Wish you luck

You need a (non-oily) leave-in conditioner (I assume you use rinse out conditioner on regularly in the shower) and some sort of de-frizzing cream, which will reduce the knotting loads, if not completely. I grew up with hair down to my ass, trust me..I know how it feels to have a nest in the back of your head lol.

Get some deodarant spray it on the problem area and now get a match or lighter and have a little bonfire on your head, and the added advantage of this method is you can also cook marshmallows on your head.

Brushing them may just rip a lot of hair out though, so be careful..try to untangle them before you brush.

first off, if your a guy then cut it all off.

if your a girl then your going to just have to brush it out. hold your hair above the tangle with one hand, and brush with the other so that your not pulling your scalp with every brush. once the tangles are out get it shaped up then use a nice conditioner and shampoo meant for frizzy hair every day. it looks like uve just let it go too long without maintainence.

put on a shitload of conditioner -- when i had ass-length hair i used the rinse-out stuff and just didnt rinse it out when i need a super-strength detangler. try to separate out a small section of the gnarly hair from the big ball of tangle, and detangle that small section. set untangled hair aside and repeat until you're done.

also, once it's done, i HIGHLY suggest keeping your hair in a braid while you sleep. it'll keep you from ending up in the same tangly place again.

yeah...dont know much about hair as I am a guy...but what BFA said sounds the most reasonable...find a good conditioner....and some kinds of cream maybe

Get a really good conditioner(no Walmart stuff), wash with DRY HAIR shampoo, put and leave conditioner on your hair for at least ten minutes. While the conditioner is still on, take a wide-tooth comb and start from the bottom. Take it an inch at a time. This will take a while, but might help. When you've got it all combed out, wait for it to dry and use a good-quality brush and brush GENTLY. When you go to bed, braid that section of hair that you have trouble with. Wet and condition it before you braid if you want.

I've had hair down to my ass for over 12 years and trust me...I know how you feel! :)

You can't JUST brush it, kiddo...with long hair you need to keep it conditioned and all of that crap, listen to us chickies and what ever Zinnia is =P

Yeah i really wanna get dreads again.....but i really need money more than dreads....so job first dreads second.

lmao.....hairboy!
im 20....does that still make me a boy....i actually hate being called "boy"....it seems almost derogatory.....imo....but hey call me what you want...."hair-boy" is actually quite cool....lol

so chickie,
how often should i wash & condition?
and how often should i trim?....or does that depend on how fast my ends split?

Zinnia
01-16-2006, 10:58 PM
Well, this chickie says:
Wash and condition every other day, but you can condition every day if you only do the bottom half of your hair.
They say that for long hair you should do a half-inch to an inch trim every six weeks.

Boys will be boys. Personally I like 20 year old boys! :D

Az.
01-16-2006, 11:03 PM
cool thanks for that..lol..i just hate washing then brusing my hair cause it makes it well frizzy and gets in my face.....another reason i want to get dreads again.

And welcome to the boards btw :)

Anyone have any idea off hand how fast hair grows?
im going to look for myself but just to second what ever i read?

Zinnia
01-16-2006, 11:09 PM
Thank you kindly, Az. :)

For the frizziness, place a SMALL amount of conditioner on the bottom of your hair and leave it in(make sure it's a very small amount).

I'm not sure, but from what I hear it grows about an eighth to a quarter-inch every month. Or at least mine does.

Az.
01-16-2006, 11:23 PM
ill try the conditioner thing tomorrow.

i read an 1/8th to half an inch per month aswell...so if I cut half an inch every 3months....i should be able to continue growing my hair but gradually get rid of the split ends....

HAIR CONDITIONER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no more washing with just soap or shampoo. you MUST condition and brush it in the shower. if youre desperate, leave it in your hair or buy a leave in like babyface said
