The SALVIA Experiential Rating Scale

Level - 1 "S" stands for SUBTLE effects. A feeling that "something" is happening, although it is difficulty to say just what. Relaxation and increased sensual appreciation may be noted. This mild level is useful for meditation and may facilitate sexual pleasure.

Level - 2 "A" stands for ALTERED perception. Colors and textures are more pronounced. Appreciation of music may be enhanced. Space may appear of greater or lesser depth than is usual. But visions do not occur at this level. Thinking becomes less logical, and more playful; short-term memory difficulties may be noted.

Level - 3 "L" stands for LIGHT visionary state. Closed-eye visuals (clear imagery with eyes closed: fractal patterns, vine-like and geometric patterns, visions of objects and designs). The imagery is often two dimensional. If open-eyed visual effects occur, these are usually vague and fleeting. At this level, phenomena similar to the hypnagogic phenomena that some people experience at sleep onset occur. At this level, visions are experienced as "eye candy" but are not confused with reality.

Level - 4 "V" stands for VIVID visionary state. Complex three-dimensional realistic appearing scenes occur. Sometimes voices may be heard. With eyes open, contact with consensual reality will not be entirely lost, but when you close your eyes you may forget about consensus reality and enter completely into a dreamlike scene. Shamanistic journeying to other lands--foreign or imaginary; encounters with beings (entities, spirits) or travels to other ages may occur. You may even live the life of another person. At this level you have entered the shaman's world. Or if you prefer: you are in "dream time." With eyes closed, you experience fantasies (dream like happenings with a story line to them). So long as your eyes are closed you may believe they are really occurring. This differs from the "eye candy" closed-eye imagery, of level 3.

Level - 5 "I" stands for IMMATERIAL existence. At this level one may no longer be aware of having a body. Consciousness remains and some thought processes are still lucid, but one becomes completely involved in inner experience and looses all contact with consensual reality. Individuality may be lost; one experiences merging with God/dess, mind, universal consciousness, or bizarre fusions with other objects--real or imagined (e.g. experiences such as merging with a wall or piece of furniture). At this level it is impossible to function in consensual reality, but unfortunately some people do not remain still but move around in this befuddled state. For this reason a sitter is essential to ensure the safety of someone voyaging to these deep levels. To the person experiencing this the phenomenon may be terrifying or exceedingly pleasant; but to an outside observer the individual may appear confused or disoriented.

Level 6 - "A" stands for AMNESIC effects. At this stage, either consciousness is lost, or at least one is unable to later recall what one had experienced. The individual may fall, or remain immobile or thrash around; somnambulistic behavior may occur. Injuries can be sustained without pain being felt; on awakening, the individual will have no recollection of what he/she did, experienced, or said in level 6. People cannot recall what they experience in this very deep trance state. This is not a desirable level, because nothing can latter be recalled of the experience.

Okay I tried it a night ago and I'll tell you my experience:

I started by lining my glass piece with aluminum and poking holes in it. I then packed it to the rim with salvia, since my previous attempt ended in a failure so I figured I'd put more on. So I go ahead and light it with a regular lighter and take a huge hit. I then proceed to hold it in as long as possible. I then start to feel a buzz and set the bowl down on the coffee table, then after this everything gets very... Dream like we'll say.

I begin to feel very heavy and my vision begins to blur a bit, my perefrial vision totally goes away and my vision narrows down a lot. I can pretty much only see what's in front of me at this point.

I then begin to sway to to the new feeling of heaviness. Then somehow I begin to think that I'm a page in a book, and the person reading it is done reading me and is flipping me over. I can actually begin to see the pages already read on my left side towards where I'm falling, and I can see the new page coming in on my right side. I become very afraid and start to think that I'm going to die if I fall in with the already read pages. I try my best to grab on to the coffee table but I feel so heavy that it doesn't even matter.

I begin to deny that this is even real and start shouting "I'm not a page in a book!" quite loudly. I then look into the kitchen at the stove. It begins to talk to me saying "Quit struggling it's your time" in a very scary voice. I continue to fall in with the pages, and finally fall all the way down. I can't see anything anymore just blackness and my mind begins to go totally blank. I stay there in that position of what can only be described as unconsiecness for like five minutes.

I then come back to my sences and totally dismiss that this is happening. I stand up and come to my sences and go get some food.

I was thinking about it last night and a lot of people are disappointed with salvia because either a) they don't feel anything or b) because it's not what they were expecting which is a weed high. Salvia highs are almost like dreams, really. What do you guys think?

I voted for five because I can recall what hapened vaguely like it was a dream or something. And trust me if you read my experience you'll realize it's up there :P

Go to http://sagewisdom.com and read the user's guide If are trying salvia divinorum for the first time. It can be dangerous if used in an irresponsable manner. You can read about one of my level 5 experiences here http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=43864&highlight=salvia%3A+experential+report

Level 5.

I've had a few good level five trips.

The first time I did it, I was with 5 friends and a friends friend who got the Salvia for him and is in turn, sharing with us. I took a full lung of Salvia 15x and held it for 30 seconds and as I exhaled I leaned back against the counter in the Shed we were smoking it in... I took the rest of it and gave the pipe away. I didn't even realize when it kicked it, I just listened to my friends talk for minute since I was handed the pipe and then someone says something me and I reply with "huh". I then start wondering if I've fallen asleep and start contemplating what to do in it... They continued to try and talk with me but my world was already slipping away and I then found myself in a gameshow. I turn around towards the counter and there's a big stage with three contestants behind there boxes and they were nightmarishly evil looking and cartoon like... I start to move towards the game wheel (which was a makeshift table made out of a thin layer of wood) and I was shoved to the side by the game host who then started telling me about "it"... my whole perspective, body and all, shifted towards this box lined with glow in the dark material and I examine it. I'm thinking how the fuck do I play this game and what's the prize? I drop to my knees and my body gives away and my friends recover me and bring to sit outside. The rest of the time was my re-integration period, where I just drift about trying to gather my thoughts, at this stage the physical effects feel heavier because I am not away from my body. I feel like a doll almost... like inanimate, as I feel I'm controlling myself from somewhere else... in the back of my head... like an entity floating over me. I feel like I'm missing my legs and my arms are somewhere else, and my mouth is disconnected from my brain. Can barely speak, almost feel like a child.

Well, that was my first time11

I think ive only hit about level 4, because when i really felt salvia, i had an eye in my hand, and i looked up and saw i had 4 arms, which i psysically felt attached to me. Each arm had a red dragons eye embedded in the backs of my hands. i got connected to everything i looked at, and i saw an orange tinge to everything.

That's exactly how I feel too like your just floating while attatched to nothing, not even your body. It's almost like you become like your spirit or something.

The higher power... I can feel it attached to the base of my spine and around my stomach. And it's like a wall that I'm connected to... I can't go any further... too hard to explain. I guess, it's KINDA like a membrane or something that I am connected to, and it's not something physically connected but it's something else... But I know for sure that it results in the wierd gravity feeling that people get.

I think I attained threshold level 4/5
I filled my lungs with the 20x extract, and was immediately elevated to a higher state. Friends that tried before me, were laughing histerically after smoking, but i noticed the less experienced were a bit scared, and didn't inhale everything.
So i thought this extract was weaker than it actually was.
And oh my, was it ever potent..
I took a long drag, like i would from some nice herb, and reclined in my chair. As i said, it immediately kicked in. The people around me were smoking bongs, drinking, laughing generally having fun (we rented a cabin in the Ardennes).
At first i couldn't see a thing, i thought i was going blind for a moment, but i had my eyes closed :upsidedow. Then the bunch of friends appeared again, although severely altered in form. They were a blob of happiness, they melted together, or merged, that might be a better description. Their color scheme changed continually.
This multi-color presence of laughter and exstatic behaviour now began to have a face, and it seemed to talk to me.
In this one face of colorful blob, i could recognize every face of every friend i had ever known. I felt a great social coherence, and it was beautiful. Really one of those life-altering experiences.

I've had other, a few pretty scary ones, like witches flying around me, and i once paralized my two legs.
Just like peyote and Devil's Herb, salvia is a playful Goddess. She'll make you see heaven and hell at the same time..
