CFL=Compact Flouresant Lighting.
Those are the small, spiral like bulbs you see around.

Actually, CFL's are amazing lights that require no special fixture.
These bad boys just screw right into a regular light socket, turn on, and there is light! They also use about 25% of the energy as regular bulbs, which is great!
As for wattage, that depends on how many plants you plan to grow, and the space you have.
To have a successful grow, you need, at least, 50w per/sq/ft of lighting. So, if you have a 4ft x 4ft space, you will want a min. of 400W of CFL's.
So, figure out the space you have and do the math. If you need further help, just ask :)

ok well i wanna grow lowryder and white widow in about a 2" x 4" space i dono how many plants i could get into that space . which would be better for that - just using cfls or using HID's and also how much are cfl's each for a 50-100 watt bulb or more if they make it???

before u go into better strains and possible a waste of good seeds i'd say experiment with bagseeds that way the margin of error will be way less costly u still have wayyyyyy far to go crawl first then run..also this site and many other sites provide more then sufficient information on every aspect of growing maybe you should take a few or more days to read extensivly on conditioning yourself for a first grow its seriously not as simple as put them under a bulb and wait 3 months the faq part of this site is a great jump off spot..take my advice or dont in the long run it is what it is..best of luck
