light bulb vaporizer questions

A couple days ago I built a vaporizer out of a light bulb, following this tutorial: http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/1376.

I'm not sure how well it's working. After a few seconds of holding the lighter under the glass, I can see a thin stream of a white vapor coming out. I'm not sure if this is just smoke though. If I really torch it, the weed will heat up enough to cherry, and then it's obvious that I'm inhaling smoke, not vapors.

Should I be seeing the thin stream of vapor, or is this just smoke? (i.e., is THC vapor colorless or not?).

It seems like I can't get very big hits from it. I might just go get a decent bong.

Also, is it best to grind up the pot so you get more surface area per volume of pot? It seems to me like only the THC crystals on or near the surface would evaporate. Or will whole buds work just as well?

lightbulb vapes suck, but if you have your mind set on using it then here are a couple tips.
1: make sure to cut the weed up because, yes, only the thc near the surface will evaporate.
2: you should be able to see some vapor come off of the weed when its been heated for a little while.
3: shake the weed around every minute or so to get all of the surface to touch the glass.

From my experience with commercial vapes, the vapours should be visible and white, yes. You won't inhale as much vapour as you would smoke to get the same amount of THC. I've never tried a lightbulb vape, so I don't know how well they work, but judge it based on how high you get, not how much vapour/smoke you see.

i made a lightbulb vape a week ago,.. its MUCH better/easier to use a candle, make sure its really ground up.

what i do, is hold it over the candle for like 15 seconds enough for me to see the vapors fill the bulb. , make sure your covering the holes so no vapor escapes, then inhale...

OK you are holding the flame too close to the bulb. It should be like half an inch below, so the flame is about a pinky thickness below the bulb. Dont let it touch. The vapors should be white and should come after at least 30-50 seconds. If they come after just a few seconds you are just inhaling smoke.

The vapors should taste like fruity, kinda like cucumbers. It will not really taste like weed smoke. let the vapors swirl around until its really thick, then hit it. Make sure its airtight, too. You should inhale it then inhale a little bit of air afterwards. When you exhale you should cough, at least once. If you cough alot you know you got a good hit. I cough on a vap more than i do on smoke.


We played a game and we got everyone we were smoking with to hit the vap and they had to hit it until they coughed...lol

and also the high is like, your body is really high but your brain isnt. Alot of people liek it better because its easy to think. U know how theres that "wall" that blocks you from thinking while high? With a vaporizer, thats pretty much gone. Also, there is not really a comedown or crash, you just kinda stop being high after a few hours. You dont get really tired.

Just keep the lighter lower and it should take at least 30 seconds to start to vaporize, but after u heat it up the first time it will only take a few seconds every other time since its already heated up. Vap it until its black, then its keeshed.
