ello ello lol so my qeustion is this i have a laptop and a home pc plus a i have people pc's coming in and out for repairs' i was wondering is there any way i can hook the notebook to the desktop pc and use the proccessors together? as in using both as a main processor or is there a way i can turn them both on and view the desktop over the laptop? or just simply view the files on the other computer as if i were sitting inf ront of it .

another one is how do i view the neibours files over a connected wireless network? i click connect it connects..then wot do i do? i mena like if i could see their desktop screen on my laptop that would be cool. any help?

You need a crossover cat-5 cable, to share files between computer without a router... all a crossover cable is, is a cat-5 unshielded twisted pair with the wires reversed at one end...and no, theres no way to make a super processor out of 2 different computers... another way to view files in other people computer would involves remote access... look it up

You can link up the two computers with a free remote access program called VNC. Should be available on download.com. It's a host/remote type of program and can be configured to not use a password. Similar to PCanywhere but free although it does not allow for file transfer. As for seeing what's on the neighbors pc, pablo is correct. Unless the users have file and print sharing enabled and you are both logged in to the same network, I don't think you can see what's on their drives and for sure can't see what's on their screen. You would have to install some kind of remote access program on their machines for that to work.

Dude, in the Windows' wireless settings, try enabling UnP... let me check a second....

Ok, I can't find the thing... but enable a check-box called UnP or UPn (not the TV network!)... anyways, when you enable this, (in both computers), you're able to access the Shared Folders in both computers...

I think that's what you're after...

BTW: If you want to make a super computer out of two... you need a Linux Beowulf cluster setup... good luck on that one...

I got interested in Apple after OS X came out and bought one of the original white G3 iBooks. It's a great OS really. Streamlined and intuitive. It works right out of the box and you don't have to go around tinkering with things if you don't want to. Being a tinker-er it's just nice to sit down at something at the end of the day that just works.

On the other hand it is also powerful. A rich CLI and access to literally thousands of open source applications. Quartz is pretty amazing visually. Full and smooth animations right in the GUI thanks to hardware acceleration from just about any OpenGL card. Pre-emptive multitasking. Perfect font smooth. Drag and drop application installation. Never, ever having to install a driver. Lots of other things.

I'm not wed to Apple hardware which I guess is good given the switch to Intel. Where they impress me is the finishing touches and how every inch of their total package is by design. This is apparent just by the care taken to design the packaging their hardware comes in.

I'm a Gentoo user as well. I run it on my LAN's samba server and used to on my laptop but my wireless card doesn't work properly in Linux so I had to install Windows :(

Unfortunatly I have to run Windows on my main box becuase ATi's propriatary driver is really lacking in the everything department.

One more thing...why do you want access to your neighbors files and data? The only reasons I can think of fall in to the category of nefarious. It's both illegal and unethical. Are you looking for credit card numbers? Social security numbers? Or is the neighbor a kiddie porn freak and you are a cop trying to bust a pervert?

Once the "server" is installed on the remote machine, the host can log in anytime as long as the remote is booted up and sitting at a login prompt or if the user is already logged in. And like I said, it's free. You won't need the user to do anything but sit there and wait and it should work as long as you know the ip add of his machine. (you might need to be set up on the same subnet as he is, not sure about that one) You should be able to talk even the dumbest user through opening a command window and typing in ipconfig at the command prompt which will tell you is ip, subnet mask and gateway address (ie...ip add of his router or cable modem).

If your neighbor has an unprotected wireless connection, there's a good chance they aren't users of "My Network Places." The easiest way to gain access of other's files is to click "My Network Places" and click on any folders you don't recognize as being yours. If you have the chance to break in their house without being detected (maybe they leave the door unlocked), you could try turning on Remote Desktop Connection. This will allow you to control their mouse/keyboard, see what they see on the screen, and access their files, even when they are on! I've been to a friend's house who had two PCs with Remote Desktop Connection, and it really freaked me out when I lost control of the mouse and saw it click the address bar and type "I am a virus."

The first thing you want to do, so you might not have to break in, would be clicking start>all programs>accessories>communication>remote desktop connection.
When it comes up, click options, then click the experience tab, and choose LAN instead of Modem. Go back to general and type the name of the pc you want to access (you can find the name under "view workgroup computers" in "My network places"), and click connect. If it doesn't work, you need to break in and enable it on their PC.

If you have the chance to break in their house without being detected (maybe they leave the door unlocked), you could try turning on Remote Desktop Connection. This will allow you to control their mouse/keyboard, see what they see on the screen, and access their files, even when they are on! I've been to a friend's house who had two PCs with Remote Desktop Connection, and it really freaked me out when I lost control of the mouse and saw it click the address bar and type "I am a virus."

The first thing you want to do, so you might not have to break in, would be clicking start>all programs>accessories>communication>remote desktop connection.
When it comes up, click options, then click the experience tab, and choose LAN instead of Modem. Go back to general and type the name of the pc you want to access (you can find the name under "view workgroup computers" in "My network places"), and click connect. If it doesn't work, you need to break in and enable it on their PC.


thats great sorta how my search turned out in the end if they aint clicked accept incoming i cant do it unless i break in ...it wasnt untill now i realised i can just pick their lock one their front door i learned how to do it at a locksmiths firm its dea easy on cylinder locks ...well seem a bit far to go to look in their my pictures files lol so i think thats the end of my little adventure into remote access without permision. i tried my computer and all those other remote admin software to do my mates computer but he doesnt know what a folder or a desktop is so he has no idea about even allowing access. oh well
