He came over earlier, and started chatting the usual shit.

"Cannabis is very bad" (Why?)
"Cannabis is so expensive" (I think its way cheaper than drinking)
"Cannabis causes paranoia and depression" (Maybe he has a point there?)
"You start off with a little bit, and want more and more" (I've smoked the same amount for years)
"It is very addictive. You cannot give up" (What nonsense!)
"I know, I worked on a drug treatment ward for two and a half years, I detox them" (I've smoked for almost 4 years)
"It makes you so paranoid, you can't walk outside because you think everyone's staring at you" (Again, never had this problem because of weed, its because of my Aspergers and I've always had it!)

God what a fucking idiot. I just kept quiet while he goes on and on about the same thing. He's always on about drug addicts, all the fucking time. But he always fails to mention the very serious gambling addiction that destroyed his marriage. My mum said that he thinks he knows it all, and "Gambling addicts don't exist do they?" she actually told him she wants to try some ganja!

There is no reasoning with this man. I can reason with my mum but not him.
Once he's made his mind up, there is NOTHING you can do to change it. I'm just glad he lives 3 miles up the road from me.

Showing him that I'm a responsible toker will be impossible.

"It gives you a buzz for only a few minutes"

He really does know everything.

A few minutes? Did someone walk in and say that their salvia was weed or some shit like that?

My highs last about 1.5 hours on average.

you know if your dad is working there, i'm going to guess he has never tried it, since if he had, it would be kind of hard for him to support others in trying to quit when there's like 1 maybe 2 things tops that is negative towards weed (it being illegal and consequences you can face, legally. and perhaps the effects smoking ANYTHING has on the body). i'm going to guess he gets his info from a mixture of sources.... first of all anyone that's ina drug ward is way more than likely done more than just weed, so he's seeing the combination of a lot of drugs effects on people over the years of their use, getting info from his drug ward bosses (i dunno what they'd be called, people that teach him what to do, and are in charge of shit, the queen ant so to speak whereas your dad's just the worker ant), the govt. produced sack of shit, and just all around hear-say. the fact of what you stated in the first post leads me to believe he doesn't even have a clue what weed really does... as far as price, yes he could be right... if you only smoke high grade shit, and pretty much everyday, of course that's going to get expensive... but i could buy a pound of brick for 450-500 and have it last me a loooooooooong time (it would probably go bad before i could finish it) any day i get beer, that's 5 bucks.. and i can promise you i drink way more than 100 days outta the year, plus with alcohol... and with certain people... the sobering up part is so shitty they'd rather just stay permanantly drunk... i would, but i can only drink so much before i feel like puking everywhere.

in short your dad is right to a certain extent, but he is clearly misinformed... the only paranoia i've EVER seen from ANYONE where other drugs weren't inolved (i.e. just smoking that night, no pills, no alcohol no nothing but weed) would of been more fear of being caught then the image that comes to mind when you say "paranoia" (people wigging out and screaming for instance, constantly twitching and spazzing around trying to "have eyes in the back of their head") weed's been proven to have no physical addiction, usually when a drug is to be addictive, it is because that drug has a chemical in it, or closely related to one your body produces, and replaces your body's natural "output" of that chemical... thus you become addicted because that drug has become your sole supply of that chemical your body/mind needs to be "normal" if anything, the only thing weed would replace would be melotonin.. and i'm pretty sure it doesn't "replace" it, just "boosts" it.

and as someone said already.... which i'll elaborate on.. changing someone, and getting them to accept you are two diffrent things... i got my grandparents to accept the fact of what i do, and so on, doesn't mean they approve of it or even like it... but they're not always trying to go around and tell me i'm goign to ruin my life and so on yada yada yada, the usual you would hear from closed minded parents.

if all else fails... go to the video store, or anyplace you can find them.. and get a bunch of tapes/dvd's on documentary of gambling addicts, learn all you can about them, and never stfu about it.

dad: and these drug addicts don't even know what they're doing most of the time.
you: wow, that's intresting, i was watching this documentary, and they said that gambling addicts don't even realize how much money they're spending when they are in "their zone", they just go through it, and eventually it becosme the only thing they care about, most of them don't even realize they had a "problem" until they're broke and their wife/family left/disowned them for it.... gee that's intresting huh? all addicts must be a like.

Don't disrespect your pops like that man, if anything he's being a father, and ignorant or not about weed, he's still right in the sense that your doing illegal shit. U could still get locked up for being affiliated with the so-called "drug". And although I agree with some of your arguements, I still think that, as long as you live with him (that's if you do), keep it on the low. Why stress him out? Be smart about the situation and don't give the rest of us a bad name....

That's probably some of the best advice I've ever been given. As I said there's absolutely no reasoning with him. He hates to be wrong. He was quite high up in his job as well.

He has this stereotype that everyone who "takes drugs" looks rough, gets free accommodation from the local authorities, and commit crime. The worst thing is that he knows I smoke weed, I just never admitted it in front of him, my mum told him.

Yeah my parents are divorced, I only see my dad a few times a month. I have absolutely no respect for him. If he was solely responsible for my upbringing I would have been a tramp on the streets with absolutely nothing.

well i quite often find myself in situations where i'm being talked down on for the bad things i do (weed for example) yet this person has some of their own problems (alcoholism for example) everytime they say something negative about what i do, i just compare/paraphrase it to what they do. since i don't honestly feel what i do is wrong, and don't feel i have an addiction, i don't really get mad, on the other hand, deep down they know they have a problem, and nothing seems to make a person who knows they have a problem madder then having it rubbed in their face, usually it ends up with me and that person in a drown out argument (more of him insulting me when i'm only pointing out facts i.e. me: alcohol destorys lives everyday, the first part of fixing a problem is admitting you have one them: fuck you, you little bitch!) but atleast i don't have to put up with the even more annoying constant complaining based on mis-information.
