Howdy there, everyone, it's kinda been a little while. I've been busy with a lot of projects and such, but now I'm making the ol' white lightning. The still's done been built and the mash is a fermentin'. It should be a week for the ferment to finish, a couple days to finsh 2-3 seperate distillations and filterings and I'm planning on aging with charred oak cubes for a few weeks, along with a few other tricks to smooth it out to make a nice drinkin whiskey! I got the scientific info from books and some special tricks from some of my great grandfather's notes. I come from a line of moonshiners and it's about time I carried on the tradition a little!
hmm, anything ever come of a meeting? Hell we should all just start a Dallas chapter of NORML. The last ime I checked their website there was a Fort Worth chapter but not a Dallas chapter. That would be a good medium to get to know one another.
Hmmm, maybe if this stuff turns out all right and some people are feeling brave we can have a moonshine party. It's legal in Texas as long as I don't sell it, make more than 50 gallons, or provide the glass it is drank out of(don't know why that law exists but...). But i guess that's a little premature anyway, there's still plenty of time for me to screw it up.
Anyway, hope everyone's doing great. Later.

Howdy SomeDude,
Yeehhhaaww !!!! 'Shine !
I've had some dang good 'shine before, made right here in Texas-talk about gittin lit up like a Christmas tree ...lol. It was the clear kind, not whiskey and it had a good flavor to it.
Thinkin about it,gives me fond memories of cooler punch, same as watermelon punch, but not made in the watermelon..ever did that ?
My hard-drinkin days are mostly over with, but I'd make an exception for some good 'shine ! I'm about 140 miles west of Dallas,so I doubt if I'd ever be able to attend a git-together,I can't afford the gas and I don't trust my car to go that far...lol.
Have a good one !

yup, that white lightning will hit you. What i'm making technically isn't whiskey, but it will be flavored similarly. 140 miles away huh? You got a good place to shoot skeet or hunt out there?

Howdy SomeDude,
Oh yeah,we got plenty of places to hunt and shoot out here,Possum Kingdom Lake is just to the north of me,Palo Pinto Lake,to the south and there are more huntin leases out here-than you can shake a stick at...lol. Almost every weekend, you can hear the 'Rolling Thunder' of hogley-davidsons going down FM4 to Lake Palo Pinto and out west to the FM 16 entrance to Possum Kingdom. This area is a big playground for y'all hap-less metroplexers...lol..so if y'all want to git away from the city life, come on out ! Heck,I can even git ahold of some pretty decent smoke out here too..and it ain't none of that over-priced hydro either..lol.
Have a good one !

Hell, I got a case of clay pidgeons and a case of shells I've been looking to blow through, but the places I used to go to are not available to me anymore. They were all private property and I'm not too sure about the laws about shooting on public land, so I haven't. Maybe I'll go up that way when I get a few days off.
I went to possum kingdom on a school campout once, all I can remember is my physics teacher throwing all manner of objects into the campfire and giggling as they burned.

Hey not sure what part of Dallas you are in but there is some public land up by Lake Lavon, me and some buddies hunt ducks up there sometimes, and pull some huge catfish out of the river that runs into the lake up there. You can drive up there pull off the road and into a field. There are no house and stuff around so its a great place if you want to blast some clay pidgeons.
Not to sure about the shine though......The only shine I had came out of the Tyler area and it was pretty ruff stuff. We used to like to make sangria wine Texas style, lots of sugar, some everclear, and wine and fruit cut up and stuff. Made for a good long night with a little red haired green to go along with it.

The best is trash can punch. Lots of different recipes but my favorite is for every liter of everclear add one 1.5 L bottle of white zinfandel and a can of red bull and a can of sprite.
Lake Lavon is government property I think, which means no "target practice" is allowed, which I assume means clay pidgeons too. at least that's what it says on the texas parks and wildlife website.
I live between dallas and plano pretty much. I'm sure there are places I can go, I just don't know where they are, and I don't feel too comfortable just going out somewhere I don't really know. I'd be liable to have some anti-gun freak call the cops saying some madman is shooting into the air. (happened before) But anyway, I don't exactly have time for that kinda stuff right now, so I'll let it wait.

haven't got any yet, still in the process of making it. I had a setback because the container I was using for the ferment turned out to not have an air tight seal, so instead of making alcohol it made vinegar :( . A new air tight container has been obtained and I've started over. I guess it wasn't a waste because I learned something: always check to make sure the container is air tight.
And oh yeah, I support my local dealer with my business, if anything it should be the other way around. Try a little CRM--Customer Relationship Marketing. You can start off by giving me a sack and it'll make me want to buy from you all the time and I'll tell everyone else how great you are, thus creating customers for you, and customers are really what makes a business succeed or fail. So yeah...uh...where's my free sack?

Houston has great shroom weather, nice and humid.
But,tis the code of the shroom picker to not reveal the locations of active fields because that could result in overpicking or incorrect picking which can cause harm to the field and and lower future shroom populations. Plus that makes less for me.
