Ok well today I was looking into lighting cause i have my whole grow box set up. I looked on ebay cause someone said that ebay would be a good place to look. I found this 400 watt light http://cgi.ebay.com/400W-HPS-MH-CONVERSION-Bat-Wing-Grow-Light_W0QQitemZ7735201669QQcategoryZ42225QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem
If someone could explain what a balast is and all of the components of this light im not sure im gonna buy it but if i get some feedback then i just might go ahead and get it. Im moving into a new house so the power used isn't a problem.

My Grow box is 6x6x4 6 high 6 long and 4 deep. Its a big shelf with a front. I need so know not many plants i can get into a space of 3x4x4 (3 long 4 high and 4 deep) I dont have my genetics picked out yet but i think i wanna do an ice, a big bud x nl and a hindu kush or some other good bud.

I can basicaly spend about 300 dollars on this grow box. someone help me out im gonna start moving in about 2-3 weeks so i need some real good info by then. The help i greatly appreciated :)

you want to flower with the HPS not the MH...and that ebay item looks pretty good, seeing that your getting both HPS and MHconversion bulbs.

if your getting multiple lights for example hps and mh and cfls then a good idea would be to use the cfls(blue spectrum) during seedling stages then the mh during vegitative stage then replace the mh wit the hps for flowering that way they get full spectrums of light as in the changing seasons and the cfls can be used throughout the whole grow as side lighting later on in development..keep in mind mh for veg hps for flowering (blue/red spectrum) also best advice for first time grow i can give is be patient! especially when it comes to watering. best of luck

ok sounds good but can i get a translation on what all of the abreviations mean and what the items do cause im not very well versed on lighting and technology, or venting for the matter... will a hole in the top with a cpu fan be enough???

A hole with a CPU fan will not be enough those MH/HPS lighting systems kick out crazy heat. My best suggestion is dont rush the grow get your lights 1st then do a test run as if you had your plants in their setup for a day. Record the Temps to see how it goes. Best Temps I believe are anywere from around 70-80%F, 85 to but if you exceed those temps you need to have good ventalation with enough CO2.

Thanks for the info im not shure that im going to go ahead and get the lights. I dont know if theres annother way to keep the temp down other that to not use the lights. I think im just gonna use standard 60 watt flourecents 2 in each section. will this work at all??? Help me out :)

Me I had to go thru a lot of work to get my temps down for the 400w lighting system but I think it was worth it I have 4 big bushy females. I wouldnt regret getting it but I'm not going to lie it was a lot of work. 1 main reason it worked is cause the Cool Tube for the bulb. I still havent finished it but Its half done and its done half the job so if I just stop being lazy n finish it I'm pretty sure it will work 100%. for the cool tube check out the FAQs on Mellow Man or the IndoorCloset section on Turtle420
