All I have is a 1000W MH to pop the seeds.I've germinated them and they will be placed in the grow bags today.I'm thinking 3-4 feet above soil should be OK.I'll test heat with the back of my hand ofcourse and raise it if needed. But I don't want them to stretch either.
Any suggestions. ;)

j dogg, I read somewhere on here that a guy sprouted seeds with a 1000... he said the light was 5 feet away.. 3 feet seems to close to me.. your biggest concern should be that the 1000 watter will dry out your soil and kill your seedlings.. keep a close EYE... be obsessive..keep the soil moist around the tap root(sprout). A light like that can dry out a seedling in minutes..
word!

3-4 feet should be fine. Anything higher may cause plant to stretch and become weak. It would be wise to have a small fan, on low, to move the warm air around. Circulation, drainage, no over watering, no over feeding is the key. Lucky for me and you that there are plenty of good cannabis related websites to guide us along.

I vote for 4-5 feet like knowmy said...I've used 250 at a foot and 400 at 18-24 with fan, but if it was my Horti...I would say at least 4 feet/+...Imho

I got it at about 3 feet and I think it will be fine. Can't feel the heat with the back of my hand down by the soil.So I think it should be fine.I check on them all day so they'll be takin care of as far as watering enough, stretching, and air circulation.I know what I'm doing ,I've just never popped seedlings with a 1000w light, but thats all I have.Right now the weather is cold so the temp is about 70 with the light on in the room with no ciculation.
I turn the AC fan on for 10 minutes about 4 times a day to bring in fresh air from outside.I'd leave it on all the time if it was warmer outside. At night I keep the heater at 70.During the day I run the house fan for 10 minute 4 times a day.and constant fans running in the room for air movment.

I vote for picking up some cool white fluorescents. That's too much light for seedlings.

I've grown seedlings in direct sunlight...are you saying they can handle that but not a 1000 MH light 3-4 feet above the soil.
Even after being on 24/7 for a couple days it's still only about 73 in the room...It really doesn't seem to bad or to hot or too bright...but I could be wrong...I know it's probably more difficult but it's not impossible is it?

dont you have any other lights, I mean it seems to be okay but a waste of electricity. Why bother using such a powerful light on seedlings when its gonna cost you a shit load of money for no more positive effects maybe even negative

They're poping there heads out and doing great...I'd just like to say HA!....JK.
Hopfully they will continue and no I spent all my money on 2 1000w Lights 1 MH
1 HPS
but it fine they will grow faster under this light once they're roots get going...even as a seedling. Also I kind of need a big light because there are quite a few seedlings...I'd need several CFL's and I don't think I need them...If I can germ in the direct sunlight ,I can do this...I control the elements indoors so it's easyier I think. But I've grown outdoors alot.

NICE jdogg!
Are you going to run both lights at the same time?
You should!

Wasn't planning on it,I'm just going to switch to HPS when they go into flower.
So...all my seeds are above soil now and no stretching or burning. The light is 4 feet above soil ,one fan is sucking airout of the ballst (to cool it)and blowing directly on the light. Then the osolating fan goes back and forth across the top of the soil.they all look like these...same hieght about, some are shorter.

I've used 1000 watters for seedlings lots of times but I had a linear light mover. You know one of those track motors. It's so easy to screw up both with seedlings outdoors and under hot lights.
Good luck,

Ya those light movers take away this whole problem.

Swating a fly with a bull dozzer, yes it does work.
Light 1 ft to 20 feet
How reflective the walls are
How much air flow
How much RH %
How much area
How soil is made up of
Florsent work when close as they put out less heat. Plants from seed till ready to bloom work great under florsents.
18/6 works great on earth for starting seeds and clones, till blooming cycles. :D

I can tell the haters one thing...in one week I germinated and popped those seedling under that 1000w MH...I had a 95% germ rate and 100% seedlings popping out of the soil thriving under that light, loving it rate.
What is 1 to 20 feet...
anyway I'm covering a 5x5 area with some plants I'm nursing back to health on the sideline.Great circulation, fresh air, good temp...what are you asking if anything?
In my opinion floro's are good for 1 thing clones and seedlings. The day I flower under a floro light I will have become a desperate man.

Sounding good Jdog... sounding good :)
You're growing them all in soil? Hydro? SoG or LST? Or JGB?
Easy,

Yes,soil.I'm keeping it simple because it's a car drive away from my house,so I needed something forgiving ,just incase.
Soil and I'm using Pro blend Organic grow nutes...I'll be using Pro Blend Bloom for soil and Budswel for flowering ...all organic this time.

Dude props for you it's working. I'll be watching to see if they grow faster start to finish then using fluorescents for seedlings and clones. I never had much luck my self but props for you dude.
How is the stretch may I ask?

Here are some pic's...typical stretch,...I think they are growing faster and the temp is betwwen 70 -80 at all times...new air from vent all day,at least 4 times a day...anyway the p[ic's speak for themselves.By the way there are 4 plants that are a little older my friend gave to me to save them.
What do you guys think...

I think that second pic is Dirty Harry(Bilbo's Grapefruit x Herijuana) from Motarebel...alll these seeds are from him...but only the gbolt and killian have been tested and are available to the public.
By the way the light is a little under 2 feet above seedlings.

Do you have a fan moving them around some to strength the stocks? I just don't see it in the pictures is all.
What about humidity for them?

Lionheart you really need to stop hijacking threads to show your plants. Lol.

Ya ,I got 2 fans one blowing on the light and one blowing inbeetween the light and the soil.
I live in the desert so humidity is never a problem as far as to high. And I run the house vent to bring in fresh air and lower the temp a little .It's ussually 76 dgrees.
To force the old air out too.
But I've never seen the humidity go below 35% and the highest it gets is only when it rains or if it's foggy, otherwise it never goes over 50%...ussually it's 50%.

Looks like lionheart as got quite a suprise coming when he flowers those monsters...I hope they're stable cause that canopy is thick!
And I don't know if that cieling is high enough...Are you flowering yet LH?
See all the bottom budsites that are in the shade...look out for male flowers...or try and get some floro's under ther or something.
Maybe it's not as bad in person. :stoned:

Thats part of the game but that lion heart is a good skunky strain.I've smoked it but havn't grown it.
Very skunky dank...I think you needed the room anyway so you'll be fine...with those tall plants you need the room for the light to penetrate as deep as possible(she said)
