What is your opinion on the theory that cannabis causes mental illnesses such as Schizophrenia?

I think it makes more sense to say that LSD and other chemical/man-made drugs have a better chance of TRIGGERING (not causing) a mental illness such a schizophrenia vs. marijuana, shrooms and other au natural drugs.
I don't think pot has an effect like that on the brain.
Nothing can cause schizophrenia, it's something that's always in your head, you can have something trigger it (i.e something tramuatizing) but thats it

I think that it does, but you just have to get a hold on it. I felt like i was going insane recently. EVERY time that i smoked i would get super paranoid and weird and nervous and shit. but i think i just needed to find a direction in life, i needed a personality and a persona.
I dont think i picked the right one yet though but im going to give this one a try, basically im going to stand up for myself and what i think is right and im not going to care about myself at all (well im still gonna shower and try and look good for the ladies) but i like to fight, i like to get revenge on people who have fucked me over and i like to be upfront with my opinions, so from now on thats what ive been doing.

Hallucinagens were first used to treat mental illness. Also, I believe pot can do wonders for some ones sick mind. Just look at me..i havent had access to drugs and so im freakin insane now.

thats pretty much what i was gonna say
theres no proof that pot triggers it cuz who's to say it was the pot that triggered it in the first place, a person might've went schizo wether they smoked the shit or not :D :stoned:

i think pot just activates parts of the brain that usually arent that active and people think they're crazy and because of the subjective/objective alleviatory effect (placebo) they actually cause themselves to go insane.

I believe first that they should actually define schizophrenia/psychosis/delusions, but then theres fuk all against cannabis if that happens, so lets ascribe this plant to cause a disease that has no specific symptoms, no real cause, and is so loosely defined that not knowing the day of the week, or being slightly paranoid is a psychotic symptom, and on top of all that only about 65% of psychiatrists (gr8 breed of folk they are) actually agree on the same diagnosis. Sounds like propoganda to me reminiscent of the use of satanic herbs back in old time (hallucinogens and the like being deemed as satanic/demonic by the catholic church) But back then the catholic church was all knowing, now we ascribe our wealth of knowledge to docs and scientists, so now they're not possessed by the devil anymore (cuz thats jus silly, aint it?). They're schizophrenic (thats much better), the indefineable ailment for the mind, but it does sound awful technical, shucks, I better jus believe them doctor folk.

but there are some pretty extreme cases :(

There are extreme cases tru, but an extreme case of what remains to be untold, if I don't see a line I don't think there is one if u get me. A person deluded enuff to kill sum1 else for no reason other than say 'his shirt is green, green wants to kill me, I must kill it' is a person that the shrinks will call a 'paranoid schizophrenic', a man who stabs his girlfriend several times for not cooking his meal, well thats jus violence committed by a very sane man, but if he smoked cannabis, or used any other drugs, well they of course are a contributing factor to some temporary form of 'madness', naughty inaminate drugs, shame on you. There are too many variables to schizo/psychotic symptoms story that I can't even read anythin on it without pissin myself laffin, they're tryin to explain emotions, and the reason you act on them, and perceive it the way you do, and with any emotion 'psychotic' or otherwise, not even the person acting upon that emotion could say with 100% certainty why they acted they way they did, what was the contributing factors to why that emotion came about, and what were the contributing factors to the decision to actually act on the emotion. All very quantum mechanical, all very simple in its complexity, but all very, very far out of comprehension. Answer the question on psychosis and schizophrenia and you've answered the question for how concsiousness works. (btw consciousness is another word without definition, so lets see how far they get on that bastard)

Marijuana produces euphoria, sedation, and hallucinations. The effects of these may be one or more of the following: euphoria and relaxation; gaiety and a heightened sense of the humorous; increased sensitivity and smell; increased apetite and ability to appreciate the flavor of food; and distortion of time perception---which are usually considered pleasant. The unfavorable things that may be experienced are as follows: impairment of short-term memory; decreased capacity to perform multistep task; impairment of driving skills; temporal disintegration (cannot distinguish from past, present, or future); depersonalization; decreased ability to perceive the emotions of others; and reduced interpersonal interaction.
.....all that said....my psychology teacher said that marijuana is the ONE drug that doesn't kill brain cells or alter them...
.......you'll just wake up in ten years and wonder where the time went and why the lights aren't on...and the light bill will be in the mail box.....lol

I think marijuana difinitly helps to develop a mental illiness when there are already some in your family or whatever. It is not the principal cause of course, but I'm sure it can help a bit. Studies have shown it (even if I dont want to beleive those anti-marijuana studies blindly).

If people want marijuana legalized, they will have to say, Ok, there might be a chance you can get scitso.. Marijuana effects the same area in your head, where people who are scitso, get affected.. So if you smoke to much, it will have long term dammage..
I don't know how much sense that made, but, there you have it!:stoned:
