I saw this movie over the weekend and it is excellent! I will be interested to hear how true some of the scenarios portrayed in the movie are to real world reality.
They show how China wanted to buy oil from the unnamed middle eastern country and was actually the highest bidder, but the USA, because they specificity wanted to keep the Chinese economy from growing as fast as it could used corruption to keep china from getting the oil it needed.
In addition to China wanting to buy the oil, there was also the fact that these oil kings could have ran new pipeline through Iran that would have allowed European countries to buy the oil, lowering oil prices in Europe and increasing profits for this country. This was also stymied by the American companies and government by assassinating the ??good son? that wanted to do this. They also make the point that America only supports the oil kings that want to spend the money on themselves and not on infrastructures that would improve the lives of the everyday people in their countries.
This of course plays directly into the other part of the story of two poor out of work young men from this country that ultimately become recruited to be suicide bombers and blowup a LNG ship using a missile that was accidentally lost by the American government in a partly botched assignation on an Iranian king.
This movie certainly gets my pick and best picture of the year so far. The acting is absolutely fantastic, especially George Clooney and Matt Damon. I liked it so much I have seen it twice.
