Hi there.
Ive been watching a steady decline in marijuana related intelligent discussion and legalization discussion. It is still here, just not as prevalant as it once appeared to me.
So I have got to wondering what brought you here. I am very interested in the motivations of community members here.
As Ive stated before, I came here in search of a source of reliable information pertaining to marijuana and the staedy progress towards social acceptance and legalization. I wanted to find a place with intelligent folks sharing stories, opinions, facts and to learn more about something I am passionate about. I wanted to see how I could better fit into the 'movement'. I was also looking for a place with reliable , professional growing information and support with growing issues.
And, of course I sought the 'company' of likemeinded individuals to chill with .
I found it all here as well as something I didnt count on. I found a unique environment where people of all walks of life, culture, age , etc come together as one and share insight into our lives and lifestyles, as well as generational minsets and personalities.
I found a very unique place that is for sure.
But, I have watched as the tone of discussion has drifted away from what fundamentally is the purpose of the site.
I do appreciate that much off topic discussion is quite necessary in order to foster and nurture the feeling of community that we all share.
But, I wonder if we have forgotten why we all came here to begin with.
Steadily I watch older serious members drift away and younger less serious members arrive.
I worry that this has started to create a problem where we have many more people seeking inforation than we do people who are able to provide it. I wonder if we are getting a little off balance.
I suspect that the ongoing work that is behind the scenes with policy changes, and creation of new forums is designed to remedy this .

Im not going anywhere. I love this place and appreciate what I am able to gather from here. I also feel it is a community which I can contribute to in a way that in turn impacts the community outside of the forums.
There is much here that I do not find anywhere else, nor do I care to seek it out.
I found it here, why keep searching?
So, this brings me back to my original question.
What brought you here? (and) Did you find what you sought?
I am very curious what is causing the inflow and outflow of members, and what each of us feel this community is to them.
I would like to see a response from all the regualrs, even if youve stated it before.
I would also appreciate the input from some of the newest members to the community.
( notice I keep referring to it as the "community" and not "the boards"...well that what I feel we have here)

I came here originally because I smoke, I'm not sure what I was originally looking to gain out of this forum.

But i'm here now to learn about cannabis (and other things) and help those who I can...I love weed and the massivly diverse culture that comes with it...and I hope to stay here for a long time to come....lol....to tell you the truth my brain isn't working 100% today so sorry if this is a bit of a mad one....:upsidedow

I agree that the new forums (or atleast i think that they) are there to get this site more focused on cannabis, I can imagine alot of older smokers would have come here to have intelligent coversations, but after browsing the site found that it was full of irrenlevant, needless spam, so leave without even registering or only after posting a few times.

So yeah....thats what i think....i might have to add somthing a little later because i will undoubtedly think of something else to add later on :)

I come here for a reliable source of growing information, legal issues, bullshit issues, strains, seeds, just an all around discussion about marijuana products, pipes, strains and cultivation techniques.

I as well come here to trade ideas with other growers directly, and can come here, ask for help, or help new growers out.

I also like the fact that I come here and and talk about unimportant, meaningless shit, that I get a nice kick and laugh out of.

You get best of both worlds. You have older folks, younger folks, shit that doesn't matter, but also shit that is very useful and educational, on all aspects of marijuana.

That's why I come here. I like it. It isn't a stuck up community and people are easy to get along with. So there. Ha! :pimp:

I come here because its the only forum where a lot of people are on the same wavelength and we all share the love of weed. People that smoke weed are generally laid back, open minded and a good laugh (with the exception of a few people on this website....) & I enjoy both posting and making threads here - I think there are some really nice people that post here, people I can imagine being friends with in real life, and this site is almost as addictive as cannabis itself!!

yeah orginally i found this site in 99 but it was a much different place than today... the site was much less complex and the forum consisted of a group of people some of them knowing a tremendous amount of info about marijuana. I was a newbie at the time and i would just read the threads and posts and gather my info that way... then i remember last summer for some unknown reason i came here again, and wow what a change... for those of you who ahve been around through the duration of that you know what i mean... i just remeber this one dude on here... cant remeber his name but he was like the growing god... literally... i really wish i could remeebr his name... i remeebr he was from california...and i remember people talking about how he got busted... it was a short name... if anybody thinks they know who im talking about please post his name ... the man was a legend

I havent smoked it since the summer though, and im quite ign orant when it comes to facts about drugs so i wannna educate myself----and be surrounded by more knowledgeable people than myself lol

Everyone should have more faith in our very close "community". Look at this thread for example. Ive seen a lot of posts addressing the idea that the boards have gone to shit, any community, no matter where you live in the world suffers its fair share of trials and tribulations. It's just another phase in the evolution of cannabis.com.

I've only been a member of this site for less than a year and I feel very associated with a lot of the members. It's like a family and although I don't know most of the members of this site very well, that whole community atmosphere remains. The majority of people Ive encounterred on cannabis.com have been very down to earth and friendly + I can get real stoned on here and not have to worry about people thinking I'm insane.
