Has anyone tried a melatonin supplement when they run out of weed?
Apparently cannabis causes a 4000% increase in melatonin secretion when smoked, thus depleting it and causing insomnia to some who quit.

Exactly. There is more to life then seeing it through bloodshot eyes. When you don't have it, you don't have it, ya know.

Its cool that you guys can get through a lack of weed, but some people including myself find it very difficult to go back to sleep. This lack of sleep, produces a lack of REM sleep, a lack of hormonal balance, memory loss, lack of attention, and ultimately depression and anxiety.
The lack of sleep is caused by a lack of melatonin in the brain, caused by smoking too much weed during the dark hours when melatonin is most produced. The smoking of the weed was caused by me putting a joint to my mouth, lighting it, and inhaling.
I have things to do tomorrow that I would rather do with energy and attention. This cannot be acheived by smoking more, and this cannot be acheived by "knowing that the weed is not addictive, it is only you". This can be acheived with plentiful sleep, but unfortunately I'm not experienced in getting sleep without melatonin production in my brain. Maybe I will be someday, but tonight, I would like a supplement.

i don't got to worry about it, i was an insomniac well before i started smoking weed... started weed at 13, been an insomniac (a really hardcore one at that) since i was about 5..... if you were to actually of gone through and counted the hours of sleep a normal person got through 20 years of life, then go and do the same to me through 20... you would find i got about 1/3 of the sleep a normal person does... maybe less.

Yeah same here, I've been an insomniac since my kindergarten years. Just never felt like sleeping until about 2AM. Its quite an interesting game, seeing if I can fall asleep earlier.

it's his thread, he's not complaining so why are you? to the xanax post, i'd love to... but i can't get them very often (my favorite drug next to weed too) best hope i have for falling asleep ever, other than being up for a day or two.. is to pop about 10 benadryl (or other medicines containing diphenhydramine hydrochloride) i've been taking that stuff for about 15 years now, so i've developed quite a tollerance to it, which is why i have to take 5x the normal dose, and that doesn't even hardly work anymore, doesn't get me anywhere near as sleepy as you'd think, if you never take them, take 1 and you'll see what 10 do to me, almost nothing... i am however, worried about what this is doing to my system, but i have no other alternative as not sleeping drives me to the brink of insanity literally (most of you probably have no idea what years of sleeping an hour or two a night can really do to the human mind, it can contribute to developing severe mental illnesses for one, i doubt it would lead to this specific one, but illnesses as severe as MPD or schizophrenia, in me, so far it's caused severe anger problems, depression, anxiety, sicknesses with no explination, like being so sick i spend the whole day puking, even if i've ate nothing.)

Dude, i hear ya. I once went 7 days without more than a couple hours of sleep. I pretty much thought I understood everything there was to know about the universe as it is, and then I started screaming at everyone I saw, having intense muscle spasms, and then a fun trip to the hospital.
Sleep is cool.
Much as how X induces the release of seratonin, or coke induces the release of dopamine, weed apparently (recent studies) induces the release of melatonin (the thing that makes you want to sleep).
connecting the dots........
