HID Lighting Coverage Area Data

On average you need 50 Watts of HID lighting per square foot of the area you intend to illuminate. This rule does not take into consideration the shape of your grow area. Below I have added a more accurate method.

250 Watt HID Light illuminates a 2'x2' Grow Space
400 Watt HID Light illuminates a 3'x3' Grow Space
600 Watt HID Light illuminates a 3.5'x3.5' Grow Space
1000 Watt HID Light illuminates a 4'x4' Grow Space

In some situations you can have a slightly larger area however HID light diminishes at an advanced rate the further it is from the plants and you stand a chance of the edges of your garden being in the dark if you try to use too large of an area with a less powerful HID light.

400watt... good for vegging and beginners/small spaces..

1000watt.... welcome to the world of BIG BUDS.. get that light close and make those BUDS thick as baseball bats

now 600watts.. where do they fit in...

a 600watt bulb is for an obseeeive SOB that is determined to get more for his/her buck than a 1000watt bulb... how to do this.... for starters... you cheat... you get 2 (600 watt bulbs)... Euro systems sells a ballast that gives off ZERO heat and makes ZERO noise and it runs 2 600 watt bulbs... last I checked it only comes 220volt... not a probelm.. call you r electrician buddy.. : )

need I say more.... : )

i love you

with 2 600's you can cover a 3x6 space pretty darn GOOD....

keep the lights right on top of your plants... lots of air flow.. I mean TONS....

SOG muther fucker.. SOG!!!!!!!!

i am starting to sweat...

I'm in a dilema then...
I don't have a 1000W bulb, and I've got one of those strange 600W bulbs.

I was thinking, when flowering comes around, to use both my 400W MH and 600W HPS.
I trully don't know why the hell I'm asking this, as I'm opening up to cheap-shots by Garden. :(

Someone confer on me with this. I have found contradicting souces that say a 1000 Watt lamp can cover up to 5'x5' feet. I beleive it's 4'x4'. Tell me what you think Knowm and Zandor or anyone else. Thanks.

Tri... I think a 1000 is perfect for a 4X4...

not to say that mafia's 5x7 set up isn't GOOD... but if his set up were 4x8 and he/she had 2 1000's the yield woould be !!!!!!! WOW...

: )

Mafia... if you get a light mover you will seriously increase the size of your buds...
with a light mover you will beable to lower the light so that it is nearly touching your plants.... because it is moving you will not have to be as concerned about burning the tops...

: )

Knowm I always found using a light mover with a air cooled system to be a severe bitch with 6" duct tube attacthed to the reflector. If you got any ideas how to do that hook it up brotha.

Yes tCreator, I know you said it... but Garden didn't... that's what I want...
Slowly but surely Garden... slowly but surely.

I know you're dying to post in my thread dude... and just wait until I start using the fog... you're not going to be able to resist!

Sometimes I think you're pulling a semi-Mr. Millagui on me... not helping me out, even though you want to. Then, when my grow is over, and I harvest, you're going to pop in my thread and tell me some wise Budha saying... like: He who wants to learn, can have no teacher...
Or something like that...

BTW people: Me and Wanker (I mean, Garden) have nothing against each other. But, for some reason, we continue with this love/hate relationship. Although I think the hate part is more important, now that Garden says the he loves everybody.

tCreator, as to the light mover:
I don't use one, never seen one. But from what I've read:
Why don't you people install the cooling fan on the moving frame? Then, the exiting hot air, just have a flexible duct connected to the output.
I don't know if this makes sense... I'm just working out of imagination.

Turtle.. you're gonna kill me... I have not seen your thread.. hahah
seriously.... give me a think so I can come over and harass you...

are you in CA?

Tri- ya know... I have never used air ducts with a light mover.... I think Zandor has done that.. or somebody did it... I agree it would be a bitch.. I know I have seen it done...

I have never actualy air duct a light... I usually will cut a hole in the ceiling and put a MONSTEr 2000 cfm fan in the ceiling and pull the hole fucking room out into the attic... or outside... the fan is so strong it will pull your ladies dress up over her head,,, exposing her POON.... oh yeah and lower the entire temp of the room in less than 10 seconds....

if you have a fire place in yor house, be careful using fans of this nature.. they can really cause some problems.... hahaha

i love you

Zandor said he centers the duct with the mover. So the duct moves just a little.

What do you think on this?

I have been playing with 2 Antenna Rotor @ 90 degrees with 2, Dual Bulb Reflector, it looks like it covers 12' x 4' I'm growing house flowers there just the out line and a few in the center, it is @ 7' high. one @ each end, @ the end it holds for 30sec. and then moves. 1000 watt x 4, 2 HPS and 2 MH AgroSun Bulb - 118,500 lumens. just for kicks!

What about two 400's over a 5'x5' area? That's two points of light distributed over the entire area. In theory that should be more effective that a single 1000W??

That's ok. We got fire extinguishers for Xmas gifts from work! Actually I have a fairly large room to work with, and was planning on framing in a section against the back wall so I can control the environment a little bit better. The area measures more like 6'x however deep I want to make it up to 10'.
