Animal Farm is about farm animals, but it represents the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia. Read anything by Chuck Palahniuk, I recommend Choke, Fight Club, and Survivor.
Star of The Sea Joseph O'Connor
Memoirs of a Geisha Arthur Golden
The Lovely Bones Anna Sebold
Life of Pi Yann Martel
None are spooky stories but all are a good read :)

I have always been into non-fiction books about war and battles. You can be shocked by some of the craziest and gruesome things and know they actually happened! Last good book I read though was called Gates of Fire. It is about the last stand in Thermopylae. It is a true event that took place, but it is written in fiction. It's about 300 Spartans that held off an army of a million Persians for 7 days. Great book! :)
