When looking at the cool tube threads on here I understand everything but the part when the wires for the socket are hooked up for the light. First do you have to get the socket at the hardware store? If so what kind of socket do you get? Also do you have to buy a ballast and strip the wire in order to hook it up to the socket? A tutorial on this part of the project would be really helpful thanx.

Depends on what light you are using. CFL use standard light sockets but HID use Mogg sockets. What light are you planing on using?

I'm working off a mylar ceiling with lights mounted to the ceiling. I start off with a metal wire box, then a porclain socket base. You can buy mogal conversions that just screw in to the porclain insert. I did notice a little heat on the wire box from the lamp but after setting up a fan that was taken care of.

I'm running a 400 W MH (veg time) with the wires leading to a different room where the ballast is. Keeps the ballast heat out of my grow area. Good Luck!!!

Yeah If you dont know to much about electrical work like me its quite simple. If you plan on using for example a 250MH you should get the whole thing[ballast and base socket (hoods are optional)] Then all you do like you seen on the threads is you take the base socket apart and make a custom cool tube thats it. Your still using the whole light fixture your just customizing it for the cool tube :o I hope I made my self clear
