From our correspondent

19 December 2005

This is interesting-I say march 2006 is when WWIII breaks out all over the world

ISLAMABAD â?? Pakistan will stand by Iran in case of any aggression, Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri has said.

Talking to newsmen, Kasuri also expressed frustration that while Pakistan has shown lot of flexibility on the Kashmir issue in talks with India, there is no reciprocal movement from India on any count.

On Iran, whose foreign minister was in Islamabad last week, Kasuri said Pakistan is strongly opposed to any attack on Iran by the United States or any other country. He said Pakistan will stand by Iran in case of any aggression.

He said Iranian foreign ministerâ??s statement during his recent visit to Pakistan provides testimony to our policy towards Teheran.

Pakistan wants that the nuclear issue be resolved through dialogue according to the principles of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he added.

He said Pakistan would continue its quest for acquiring latest technology and defence equipment at all costs to maintain a balance of power in the region.

Pakistan can talk all the shit they want to keep the peace with Iran but if the shit hit the roof you can bet all the support that Iran would receive is a verbal disapproval of the situation. Pakistan doesn't want to piss off the U.S. not to mention they got their hands full with India.

From what I found...77% of Pakistan is Sunni...Iran is Shi-ite. Not much more to say about the loyalty issue than that. :rasta:

I don't see any trouble from Russia, hell...after Afghanistan and their current situation with Chechnia I don't think they want to get into a war with a real power. As far as China is concerned, I think their just keeping up a little log book until 2010 which is their deadline for Taiwan to join the mainland. When they invade Taiwan they'll have past history to use as a guideline to the U.N. for approval.

I doubt Russia or, especially, China would actually get involved in a shooting war between the U.S. and Iran. They'd bitch and moan, along with France, but that's all they'd do. It's all about the almighty $. Russia and China might sell arms to Iran but its because they need the cash. Ultimately an all out war between super powers, even a conventional one, would be disasterous for the economies of everyone involved. When push comes to shove they'll kick Iran loose. Decent relations with the U.S are far more valuable in the long term than any realationship with a bunch of camel jockeys. At least that's my theory. I'd be more worried about good ol' GW launching an invasion of China because he got a bad fortune in his cookie.
