I was thinking of cutting down each plant to only one main branch. The tops are losing space and i'm running out of head room. The only way to make space would be to cut. Does anyone think i should do this? They are on day 18 of FL. I'm almost loosing it, to the point of cutting them completely down. My grow looks like shit compared to others. I have all the right stuff and nothing to show for it. WTF am i doing wrong? Maybe i should start all over but this time i should try from seed. Dag-on clones ain't workin for me......

Ditto brother. My scene is exactly like yours (waaay overvegged), even looks the same. And they got way too tall also, so I was wondering the same thing: should I strip the whole plant [3 feet] except for the top 1 foot, leaving a ??highrise?? canopy sitting 2+ feet above the netcups, with only bare stems beneath?
Ed Rosenthal swears by this method, you may have seen pictures of his pruned plants: just a 1-foot cola at the end of every main branch (and the smaller branches removed completely). Then he stakes ??em so each branch/cola sits 6? apart in squares.
It makes fewer, larger colas which he says increases yield. But the world of growing is full of bad advice from ??experts??, and I??ve always wondered if doing that reduces yields. All the leafage in the ??underbrush?? is receiving some light (which adds up) and producing sugars, etc. that feed the buds above. Pruning like that and ending up with what almost looks like a trimmed cola, with just the leaves around the bud in the last (top) foot of each branch, doesn??t seem like there would be enough leaf to produce power for that bud. Although leaving the leaves that are below the 1-foot mark means a lot of trim [??trim harvest!? :D ].
In my own limited experience, the people I know who end up with the most weight don??t do any pruning at all; when the plants are cut there is a lot of useless brush and a significant amount of too-small-to-be-called-a-bud trim. But?. In spite of that, their overall weight of big nuggets is still more.
I tried the Ed Rosenthal extreme pruning method one crop, and it??s nice while it??s growing; all there is are these big solid branches (you??re just thinking about how much work you??ll be saving at trimming time). But my yield was disappointingly low. That may have been due to some f***ups during that grow, so I??m still not sure which methods?? best, only that not pruning at all definitely works good.
Anybody got really good results with Ed??s pruning technique?

These should have been put into flowering a long time ago.
That hydro system is meant for a few smaller plants.I would have flowered at about 1 1/2 feet.

If your going to cut it just to a small trim first.Don't cut too much or you'll shock your plant or kill it.
I'm more worrieed about your ROOT SPACE!!!!
Is it full of roots that are growing together. If it's running out of room they might die anyway.
If it comes down to it.You could kill every other plant and double it's grow space and root space.
But thats up to you.Take a pic of the roots!

These were switched to 12/12 when they were less than 1 1/2 foot. ( pics) I'm guessing this strain likes to brach out. Mango. I don't know why they just keep stretching. If i knew they were going to stretch this much i would have put them to FL after only one week of veg instead of two. Thats what i don't get. They are about to be at 21 days and they haven't stopped stretching. I see the female flowers starting to pop out everywhere but no bud hairs. I think i am going to get myself some soil and plant some seeds. I'm obviously not good at hydro so for now until i stock up, I think i'll go back to soil. Having no bud after spending so much time and money makes me want to go FUCKING NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well you said it's Mango?

That is a sativa dominate strain and needs room to grow. One plant will reach about 7 feet tall before it matures. Sativa are a little tough to grow indoors unless you have the room. You need to add some bottom light and tie it down. Bend the outer branches to almost horizontal and use the extra light to flower the lower parts.

Finally a logical reason for my failure in first attempt. I didn't wait long enough. I had no idea that Mango was a Sativa dominant. I'm such a newbie. I really don't have much more room for them but i can tie down and bend some more. I decided to take down the two spirals and take Zandors advice. I just need a base for them and they'll be good. I guess their will be no cutting. More bending and tieing.

Zandor - How long does a Sativa generally take to mature? You said they get very tall before maturing, but time? Just trying to get a ballpark of when i could look foward to something. And am i doing ok for a Sativa grow? Thanks again to all.

80-120 days is normal and they contuine to grow up the last 3 weeks or there abouts before they settle down finish flowering and pack on the weight. Kick in some low side lighting and that will help.

You are doing fine, just remember any strain you grow will contuine to grow taller right up to the the last cycle in the plants life. About 3 weeks before peek harvest the plant changes to the finish flower cycle and packs on the trichomes and weight. (that's the quick version, heheh)

80-120 days is perfect. I'm moving in four months and i only have time for one last grow. So instead of cutting them down and starting over with a, more for indoor strain, i will just keep them on 12/12 and tieing and bending until they are done. I can't wait to move. I think i will start from seed at my new place. Thanks Zandor for letting me know about this strain. We'll just have to see how it grows and smokes when its done.
