what size room do u have? 400w metal halide light for a space like 3x3, around 20 bucks at your light shops. thats for seedling and veg. 400w hps (price ?) is for your flowering. dont use the hps for nothing but to flower i learned the hard way.

Just a little over 3X3 i think, and for the 400w, i would love, and it's not the bulb i worry about it's the damn lamp that cost like 50X that ammount LoL
pluse i am trying to make a shoping list of what i need and how much it's gonna cost me, right now i only got 55$ but since X-mas is near that well change a little,(considering how poor i am, i am not sure how much)

i also use HPS for veg, my plants seem to do okay. What happened to yours mobay? it does make a difference to use MH but it's also more expensive, And conversion bulbs are also pricey.

if i were you, I would get a HPS from insidesun.com for damn cheap, much cheaper than we get in the UK. Mind you youd need more than 55 bucks

Jup..!:p
It is possible to use MH and HPS with my ballast, but I seriously can't keep using $$$, 'cause I'm not made of $$$!!:P:)

i guess i messed up using a 1000w hps in a 3x3 grow box the bottom leaves on my plant dried out real bad. couldnt get the humidity up was set on 30% and wasnt going up. i then put the 400w mh in the grow box and they are coming back to life again humidity is 50% now. i guess i could have used the 1000w hps in a larger space , than i would have to kick grandma out of her room. lol

okay i got a question, frist time grower here(once agien) and this frist grow isn't gonna be small, Minnume went to like 10, bc of friends house, so far we got a room about the size of 8 by 8, (possible a bit bigger) but we are gonna insolated it, then put abounce of tinfoil to use as refalters once thats done. i dunno how many bulbs we gonna need, i planed on getting some CLF 45w ones but that shit addes up and not sure if i should save for just get like 4 150w ones just for Veg then switch to 4 red 150's 12/12 light then.... but as i said, how many bulbs would i need if i used CFL with a insolted room, that would have heaters and fans and stuff in it.
btw once insolated space well be more limted, not sure how much yet though.......

Ten plants, on how many cfl??
You are gonna need atleast two cfl's for each plant! The cfl's need to be as close to the plants as possible, or else they will strech..
Tin foil is a crappy reflector, get some mylar, or paint the room white.. (tin foil does burn damage)
Are you on a tight budget? You will get better results with, MH for veg, and HPS for flower!:)

CFLs are good, for a compact grow but from sounds of things you got a good space to use that wont be used effectivly from CFLs unless you buy loads of em which will cost more than one big light, 400hps+ would be much better with say a couple of small 45w blue cfls for the veg room, I no you trying to save money but it will just cost you more money down the line when you realise you are not getting the full potential out of your plants. I used a small 125 blue and red CFL in the end i have ended up splashin a extra £120 on a HPS and extras, i got ok results from the CFLs ( just over a ounce dried) but under a HPS i would of got 4 times that amount :)

I have a lighting guide in my signature that tells ya all about the various lamps. Read it over and good luck on the grow!!

i did look at that, but i don't really get the Chart thing, dunno know why it looks simple to understande it just isn't for me >_<
but as far as the HID lighting i understad, would that HID Lighting List fall under HPS as well?

Also forgot to add, is it a wise idea to let a room get up to 90 degrees if it ends up doing that

Here's another lighting chart for ya. Veg cycle likes more of the blue spectrum while flowering likes the red. Good Luck!!

Yes, the HPS falls under HID lightning!:)
And if you get mylar, you could get the 400W HPS to do for your grow!:D

in an 8' by 8' grow room, if your going to use all of that space, id get a 1000hps not a 400, 400's are only meant to cover 1m squared. If you got a 1000watt light you could fill the room with plants. But a 400 for 8'x8', thats not nearly enough. seing as though you said you dont have much money, i think you should find a smaller space. Im also a bit confused, youve gone from 2-4 plants to 10 minimum, what changed your attitude?

o, also no it is not wise to let your room get up to 90, keep the temps between 70 and 85 during the light hours.
