We have a few friends with kids who smoke, but most of our friends our single guys. Our daughter is still very young, but she won't be forever. We have tried to create a balance of not rubbing it in, but not being ashamed. We will never lie to our kids about it. I just wondered if any of you guys are married with kids and how you choose balance both.

I imagine you're not saying you have friends with kids who smoke right? Well, that's what ya said lol but I think i know what you mean. Their kids don't smoke, but your friends do right?
I have friends that are married and have children, they're still about 4 and 6 years old so they don't know but my friends will only smoke around them when they're in their rooms ready for bed. Even then if they have to use the bathroom or something they'll quickly spray ozium before they come down.
We would never smoke in front of the kids or in the car with them, etc.
On the other hand I know some people who not only smoke pot and cigarettes around their young kids (I've meet several people that do this) but they also swear at their kids and make their kids cry and then make them cry worse, etc. Very bad white trash parents.
I knew another couple who would smoke this huge bong or whatever they wanted to smoke around their kids, and one time my other friend asked the guy if he had any papers, and the little girl who was listening ripped off a little piece of notebook paper and brought it to her because she didn't know that she meant rolling paper, she thought she wanted paper. :) Just a random thought I guess.
What I would do is not smoke around the kids, and yes don't lie, but make sure they understand that it's not a rebellious thing to do, and make sure they understand that you can get into trouble and that no one must know about this. :)

Well all I know is that I grew up around weed my whole life, and look at what website I'm posting at :D If you really don't want your kids getting into drugs it's good to keep them taboo from a very young age.

I meant finding a balace between them learning about its benefits without us disregarding the law and then trying to inforce it later. We are pretty active in trying to get marijuana legal. We took our daughter to hempfest for the last two years. Next year she will be too old (3). It isn't about the smoking it is more about the confusion of the laws and right and wrong.

How do I look at your website? Do you consider your being around it a good thing or a bad thing? I don't care if my daughter smokes weed. I care why she smokes weed.

My parents smoked weed around me all the time when I was little kid. I mean, they'd bust out a bong in the living room while we were watching a movie, and I remember seeing the roach clips with roaches going around. I always thought they were mini scissors. :D But, that was about... 7 or 8 years ago... I dunno, after we moved out of our old house, and into this other one, they stopped smoking around me, and always did it in there room. And I guess they think I have no clue now. But I still remember my dad's red foot long bong. :D And my dad still smokes, I know for a fact. He dropped his baggie with about half an OZ on my head while I was still half asleep but halk awake one morning on the couch. And I also find little stems and seeds in his car. I'm just waiting for him to confront me about smoking before I say anything. ;)

Yeah, i don't see me or my husband doing that. I try to have the entire lifestyle so that i am not a hippocrit (bad spelling). WE are very healthy people who eat well and don't use any other drugs. Including over the counter.

I believe you should not teach complete and blind obediance to the law. Skepticism and doubts regarding moral are what keep laws and morals evolving into better and better. And if you always obeyed the law, you would never smoke weed. In fact, you would betray all your weedy friends and bust them to the police.
Correct me if im wrong, but democracy was born due to disobediance(but the government of England sort of had promised voting rights...)...I dont know what im talking about, haha.
Anyway, i believe that with drugs you need to be very two-sided. You need to realize the comments of people who are like "weed will make you kill your mother", and on the other hand you need to realize the comments of people who are like "ive been doing cocaine daily for 20 years and im in a good shape, drug laws are bullshit!".

I see your point. It is what we have planned on doing. WE are pretty anti-govt in this house even if my husb. is ex. military. Probably what did it. Ha ha.
I want our kids to always ask why. I encourage it. People think we are nuts. There is a difference between talking back and being curious for the truth.

I know it will work itself out. I just thought it would be cool to hear from parents who did this sucessfully.
I love that marijuana replace 6 different medications for me without the side effects. I want my daughter to make up her mind based on results, not because Bush or any other person for that matter says so.

Yeah, well i believe that just like the laws are supposed to control our actions, we are supposed to fight the law when it goes too far and steps on our toes. And this doesent have to be "if something really outrageous happens", it just simply is how things go forward and evolve, and i think people should realize it. Even moral works that way.
I also believe that its the parents job to control their kids and set boundaries, and the kids job is to break them. The same phenomenon. If your kid always does what you tell him/her to do and comes home the time you tell your kid to come, then something is wrong. At least in teenage it is. Without conflicts the rules are not as good as they should be.

Being a parent is work, period. Anyone who is, knows this. Those who smoke weed and do have children can't help but fear and feel guilty. If you don't, you've got major problems. People want only whats best , for their little ones. Can't help it. I know I do. Listen, I've tried quitting, for my daughters sake. Lets just say, I know how I am, when I don't smoke. I turn mean. I'm unable to calm down or to think in a calm manner. Weed RELAXES ME. Takes me TO A BETTER frame of mind. A low stress fraME of Mind. I wish it wasn't that way. But it is. On the other hand, for as long as I can, she will be in the dark, about it. All I'm trying to say is , don't let your habits in [B]ANYWAY become apart of their lives. That's not their problem. they have their own lives to make happen. Our job is to make sure they do it.

Four Children, 22,25,28,30. I've smoked, publicly, for 35 years. Two of my kids are smokers, two are not. My ex smoked cigaretts and I smoked a massive amount of weed while running a business. All of my children are; honest, hard working, bright thinking individuals with college gegrees and careers. Read some of my other posts follow the link back to my public profile then read some of the pieces that apply to you. Read the others for fun.
It can be done, and it is stressful, the the children are perfect mimics and they will follow your lead in dealing with the straight world. Just take a moderate amount of care. What you want to avoid is teaching the kids to be sneaky. then they will learn to be sneakier than you and well it's all down hill from there

My parents don't smoke any more (so far as I know...) but were active hippies back in the day. When I came home from D.A.R.E. class in 5th grade every day, having recieved a lecture on "just say no" and "drugs are evil", my parents would sit me down for a counter-lecture on personal freedoms and responsible decision-making. The best advice my dad has ever given me was, "Always question authority."
