Hello everybody. You may remember me as ermitonto, who got a new username and took a hiatus from the boards.

Well, I'm back. Kind of. I've been busy as a beaver preparing for term papers and final exams and such. I've been sleep deprived to the point of hallucination, but luckily I have good old Mary Jane to help me get through it all.

I've learned a lot during the time I was gone. I figured out how to do sygyt-style Mongolian throat singing, that is, producing a high-pitched flute-like sound by constricting the right parts of the throat and mouth to turn it into a sound-filtering chamber which concentrates it on one frequency. I've learned from Jack Herer's excellent works how much brighter hemp can make the future. I've been studying such diverse topics as Taoist philosophy, the theory of evolution, the future of space exploration, international auxiliary languages, the origins of human history, and the current state of science education. Knowledge is kind of like weed. There's so much out there and we only get a few decades on this planet to consume as much as we can. :rasta:

Well, it's now 4:20 a.m. Who's going to join me in celebrating?

No, just beginning. I have one this morning, but it's for my Russian class which is a piece of cake for me. After that I still have two more finals to take and another paper to write. Ugh. I think this is going to have to be the first final I've ever taken completely ripped out of my skull.

I'm a linguistics major. Languages just fascinate me. So I've undertaken the task of learning the most popularly spoken languages on Earth. As it so happens, the top five are:
1) Mandarin Chinese
2) Hindi
3) English
4) Spanish
5) Russian

fuck man that's so cool.
I'm into languages too. Would you mind me stealing your idea:p
I'd do it in a lifespan though, way too lazy to do that all in a time:)
PS Did you also study classic languages?

I'm jealous.... I made the mistake of majoring in History when linguistics was always my true love... Unfortunately I didn't feel like starting over from scratch, but maybe in the future I'll do Linguistics.

I learned Mandarin this semester, and I already learned Latin and Ancient Greek, and I speak English, French and Italian :)

P.S.: welcome back :D

Go right ahead and steal it. I'm an anarchist. I don't believe in intellectual property rights.

No, but I can read quite a bit of Latin since I can recognize the Latin roots in the vocabularies of those modern languages I know, and I've learned quite a bit about Latin from my studies of how languages evolve over time (Latin is the best example because we have so many written records of it changing into its daughter languages over the centuries).
