TIFTON, Ga. - Trained wasps could someday replace dogs for sniffing out drugs, bombs and bodies. No kidding.

Scientists say a species of non-stinging wasps can be trained in only five minutes and are just as sensitive to odors as man's best friend, which can require up to six months of training at a cost of about $15,000 per dog.

With the use of a handheld device that contains the wasps but allows them to do their work, researchers have been able to use the insects to detect target odors such as a toxin that grows on corn and peanuts, and a chemical used in certain explosives.

And the sad part is that this is the kind of shit they waste our tax dollars on but they still can't seem to find that old arab dragging a dialysis machine across a desert. Go figure.

Wait. Non-stinging wasps. If they can train a Wasp to do the job of a Dog, then why can't they train themselves to do the same job? If they can get inside the brain of a Wasp then they can figure out how to sharpen their nasal skills to beyond human power. It's just amazing. Trained Wasps.

That's dumb, what do you do...whistle for them when the gob is done? Kill them when the job is done? I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE LOGIC!

Actually I think it may bring more attention to you if you are trying to board a plane with birds.

nah, they're already contained. the wasps send this complicated signal through the computer and a beep is produced. there will be people specially trained in understanding the sequence of beeps, so that when the wasps detect something they know how to make their move. there hasn't been any further news in the discovery, but the word around here is that they're trying to invent something that would be able to allow the wasps more roam, while still being restrained in case they try to get out of hand.

^ this could turn into attack of the killer wasps or something. also why don they just invent a tool that picks up the scent of things, like a scent recognizer. would it be that hard.?

Now if they really wanted to stop the smiggling they could just cross breed these with a stinging variety and just let them nest in the airports. Then everythime they smelled bombs or drugs they would swarm the poor bastard smuggler.
One or two signs ought to do the trick.
" WARNING. These premesis patroled by bomb/drug sniffing attack killer wasps. Smuggle at own risk"
